My DS has emailed and left a message on admissions answerphone but no reply as yet, just wondered if anyone else has had the same thing.

Hi,
Funny you should ask, GSA is the only one we haven't heard from either. Well apart from initial contact when my dd applied last nov they asked if we wanted the initial audition to be in manchester as we are from the midlands. We e mailed back yes and heard nothing since.
I called today and asked if they had sorted a date out yet and they said no,they were hoping to make it in mid feb and hadn't forgotten us. A friend of my dd who applied after her had her audtion yesterday but in Guildford. Its just such a long way for us that's why we jumped at the manchester auditions. If you get a recall you do have to make the trip done there though.
Where else has your Ds applied to?

When you say GSA do you mean Guildford? My dd is waiting for Guildford and as they were supposed to be doing regional auditions in Manchester she asked if she could be considered for a Manchester one which they said they would but she still hasnt heard and has also emailed with no response. It would be nice to get it sorted so she can decide what to do as going through UCAS you have to be rejected by all before you can apply elsewhere but I guess they have so many applications that they struggle to see everybody particularly if they do regional ones. I do know that some Guildford recalls were cancelled because of the snow . It is very stressful isnt it . My dds already had 2 rejections Central and LIPA although got through to afternoon recalls at Central and really enjoyed that audition but with so few places and thousands applying it is brutal, I think if she doesnt get anywhere this year she will approach things differently next year. She really wants to do Musical Theatre but put down Rose Bruford and LIPA and their degrees are acting and American Theatre Arts so she has really wasted 2 choices.

Has anyone any thoughts or dc doing the Musical Theatre course at Chichester. It looks really good but dd didnt know of it or anyone doing it and I think its not being going long. Other than the usual popular places can anyone recommend any other places that are good although it may be too late for this year.

When I did my degree you could apply anywhere direct so I am not as informed as i should or should have been so feeling a bit guilty I havent given good guidance to my dd :(

Anyway good luck to all the other dc auditioning and the parents

Yes sorry I meant guilford, I know it as GSA :D its the manchester audition we are waiting for but like I put in my previous post they are yet to set a date so don't worry you havant missed it yet.
My dd has applied and had auditions at arts ed,central and chichester so far for their musical theatre courses. She had no luck with the first two and we are waiting to hear from chichester. She did get a recall for the afternoon session there. It's been almost two weeks so are anxiously waiting a decision. My dd liked it at chichester, she likes the idea of the triple threat musical theatre course. It's a very all round course.
We also feel that she has wasted a couple of choices on ucas as arts ed was more dance based and central more acting based. Like you said,if she applies next year will be a lot more experienced in where to apply. :D

Hi showtunes and dorothy, my DS emailed GSA as he would like to attend the Cardiff audition as we live in Bristol, he did also say he would be happy to go to London if Cardiff wasn't possible, perhaps requesting a regional audition is the reason for the delay as you say your's have requested Manchester. Would be nice to get replies from messages left though.

He has applied to Manchester Met(acting)-went for an audition Wednesday of last week, he thought it went well and enjoyed the day and is waiting on the outcome from UCAS, he's going to LIPA(acting) on Sunday and has auditions arranged for Mountview(MT), Rose Bruford(acting) and the Drama Centre(acting) in Feb, he is also going to apply to Bristol Old Vic. Not expecting to get in this year as DS won't be 18 until July but all good experience,

Realistically my dd isn't expecting to get in anywhere this year either. But does any other parent worry what their Ds/Ds will do for the next year? There doesn't seem to be a college course she can do forms year to betters her dance/acting/singing skills as they are all 2yrs long. I would rather she stayed in education than get a job and then maybe lose focus. Although I know it will be great for her to be earning money to put aside if she manages to get in next year.

Thanks for the responses its nice to have other people to talk to about it and heart wrenching when they get the rejections so I know how it feels. My dd applied for LIPA as we live in Liverpool and she thought I wanted her to apply there whereas she would love to move to London or near London . As I said before it is acting at LIPA and she wanted MT but LIPA did say they may be doing an MT degree course in the next couple of years as I think they are trying to expand. LIPA do get back to you quick though (well at least if you are rejected :( ). I think the delay in hearing is particularly frustrating

My dd still has 3 to go LCM, GSA and she also applied for the RCS (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). The Glasgow date is mid Feb so I hope it doesnt clash with GSA. Anyway fingers crossed everyone.

Thankyou and good luck to your dds and all going through the audition process.
My DS goes to a really good evening actors workshop college class which is primarily for those auditioning for drama school, and I'm sure if ds doesn't get in this year it will keep him focused. Also said to him maybe worth if not successful this year to apply for usher jobs at the local theatres, he does have a cashier job in a supermarket, but can't imagine him wanting to work more hours than he does now!! Also to carry on in the amateur operatic society he is in.

Dorothy. Have you looked at liverpool theatre school? They do a musical theatre course which dd has applied for. Although have found out you can't get student funding for the three yr course as its not recognised as a further education course. It costs 10,500 a year. They do dance and drama awards which is means tested and also give out scholerships but they are only for a small amount of the fees. So I think it's out of our reach. :(

My dd will try and find work as well I think. She is 18 she attends Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre and if she stays in Liverpool will probably continue to do that or help out with it. I think she is still young enough to do it . Sometimes they have casual work there eg front of house that she might be able to apply for and there are other theatres in Liverpool so maybe there will be work there. She also thought about looking to see if there are any jobs at disney (to be a princess :D ) or holiday camps. I think if she has to apply next year she will be more organised and maybe try and find some audition workshops for the experience, particularly re Shakespeare monologues as she has never really studied much Shakespeare at school.

Yes looked at Liverpool Theatre School but didnt apply because of the cost . Out of our reach unfortunately. I know there are DADAs but I dont think its easy to get them that why she went the UCAS route as student loans are available and also I think she would like to get a degree so that if it doesnt work out she can maybe do something with the degree (she has thought of music therapy) and having a degree may enable her to do other courses

DS did his third recall for Central last thurs, apparently let him know in April now. Incredibly hard, as expected. I take my hat off to all our fantastic children who even put themselves in for this!

We felt GSA was a very different experience, and one which didn't allow applicants to be seen on an equal basis with Artsed, mount view or Central. GSA obviously feel that they can make a judgement about someone's ability to study a 3 yr course based on 3 minutes! I guess they just have so many applicants they can filter off 2000 at the beginning, confident that they still have 30 good candidates. Not necessarily the best ones tho, but I guess that doesn't matter ?

We have a welcome rest now until Mountview in March. Maybe my nerves will have recovered by then! Good luck to everyone'doing this, and thoughts go out to fellow Mum's and Dad's! :)

Its a tough old game isn't it?
My dd gets really frustrated by the auditions which allow only 1 minute of a song. How can you show the journey and your ability to act through song in 1 minute? ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

No recall at GSA I am afraid, but, for those still to attend fthe first round , dd said that some girls were asked to sing part of Over the Rainbow after their song. Something about "Seeing the line of their voice"? She didn't see a pattern in who was asked and who wasn't but it might be worth practising just in case.

I wonder what the statistics are on successful applications from students who have done foundation years? They are SO expensive though with no funding

Good luck to all x

I don't think sheer numbers is an excuse for poor audition experience - Central have huge number of applicants and much smaller year groups than GSA [-X [-X [-X Auditionees should have a chance to show what they can do - after all they are paying for the experience

Keep hanging on in there - good luck for all the remaining auditions!!

Don't worry about keeping focused in gap year - it goes very quickly and if your DCs are serious about getting in they will keep focus. My DD worked and the money was VERY welcome when she started living in London (though it ran out quickly...................... )

Hi Welsh Mum,

I agree that high numbers are no excuse and feel they need to invest more in the first round, as at Central. GSA took the 20 or so candidates into a room. Went along the line and asked them all if they played an instrument, and what was there dance history. No one took any notes on any of this!

Then they sang their 3 minutes of song, with train fares and hotel bills it was an expensive three minutes! Either the panel know something we don't or you are right and they can't possibly show what they can do. Very frustrating. DS has always said he doesn't mind them saying "no your not what what we want" as long as they look him the eye and watch him first!

It's all a continuing learning curve for DS and me!

We are still waiting for dd to get her audtion date for GSA but I'm not keen on her doing it. It will be an expense, and for what, 3 mins of their time. It isn't good enough. They shouldn't charge for that. In fact I bet they could actually be reported to some place or other for a shoddy auditioning process. :-k I know it's all experience for them, but when your out in 3 mins flat can that be viewed as such? At arts ed,central and chichester dd had a good few hours audition and felt like she was seen properly seen and shown around the place. Positive experience all round.
