I think GSA has changed a lot. I know when my DD auditioned 3 years ago the audition was not like that. They also used to have smaller year groups (my DDs had 18) but now they take on about 60-70 . I also know they have had a lot of staff changes over last few years - shame to see things have chnaged there as it always had great rep esp for MT

To be fair, I think that the "in and out in 3 minutes" is an exadgeration. I know that dd was in for about an hour and a half - not as long as other schools but much more than 3 mins. The other thing to take into account is that GSA did an excellent open day so we had already had talks from the faculty and students as well as tours of the school, the wider campus and accomodation. I know that not everyone can attend open days, but we appreciated the chance to visit before choosing to apply.

My dd was in and out of her GSA audition really quickly too....
How on earth can they get a feel for what you are like based on a short space of time? Maybe they are one of the places that base their choice a lot on how you look rather than your talent.....

when dd auditioned for GSA - they warmed up in a 'group' - and later they each did their individual monologues, on their own infront of the panel. They stopped her before the end on one of the two pieces - and directed her - It was the quickest audition out of all the schools - they were 'short' with everyone was the feedback and the most different to the other auditions. No one dd knew from GSA auditions got in, or to he 2nd round - but dd has since known one guy who's at GSA and he is fantastic and a lot older interestingly- perhaps it's some life experience/degree courses behind them already that they like, or if they've been a volunteer in Peru spoon feeding monkeys, or built an orphanage singlehandedly somewhere with mud, who know's...it's a bundle of confusion ^*^**)&(&*(&() .

I think GSA must have changed a lot when dd auditioned for 2011 intake the first audition consisted of being seen by a panel of independant specialist people who cast for the industry it took at least a couple of hours and then those who get to recall go for two days .. one of the reasons dd took into account when choosing what offer to take was that two people who had been integral to the reputation of the school had suddenly resigned since it had established as part of surrey university and things seemed a bit unsettled there - surprised to hear they now take 60 -70 on musical theatre ....as I said on an earlier post on this subject with having two of mine do the rounds of auditions the only school that I felt really gave all candidates an equal chance to show there talents was laine as there they give them a whole day no one goes home early so I felt the fee was well spent ... good luck to all those auditioning x

It does seem that there are a lot of differing experiences at the GSA auditions. My ds, who auditioned for 2011 entry, was there for about an hour which consisted of group warm up followed by his monologue and a song. When asked for the music for his chosen song one of the judges said "please don't do another Andrew Lloyd Webber number - I have heard too many of them" which I thought was a little rude. Luckily ds had a whole load of sheet music with him but that was not the sort of comment which is going to put you at ease really!! I have also heard that there has been quite a turnover of staff too which is a little worrying.

My dd heard this morning that she has been offered a place at Chichester uni for the triple threat musical theatre course. She is very pleased will prob still do the other couple of audtions she has left but really liked it there.
It's been a long two weeks waiting for the news!

Great news on those offers! Such a relief to have a place isn't it .... FWIW DD did better in auditions she got after she received her first offer. I think it really takes the pressure off for subsequent auditions, knowing you already have something in the bag

My DS had his audition at LIPA yesterday and really enjoyed it. He was there for 4 1/2 hours and it's great that they are all given the chance to perform all their pieces, which reading some of this thread is not always the case. Now a case of waiting, they were told they would get a letter but in the info email previous to the audition it said they would get an email if recalled and would be sent a letter/updated on UCAS if they were unsuccessful, so not sure exactly what he should be looking out for. Whatever the outcome from his first 2 auditions-Manchester Met-still waiting on the outcome- and LIPA, they have both been positive experiences and he has enjoyed them both.

Fingers crossed for your Ds for his lipa audition. Sounds like he got plenty of time to showcase his skills. All of my dd auditions so far have been either a whole morning or even just past lunch with a recall. I think 2-3 mins of singing to see whether you fit the bill isn't fair. Surely on a whole round course such a musical theatre they need to see where your at with singing acting and dancing and not just singing. Is your Ds wanting to do just the dance course at lipa?

My DS is going for the BA Acting at LIPA, he did 2 monologues and a musical theatre song at the audition.

He's applied for 4 acting courses and 2 MT, he would like to do MT but is a bit put off by the dance element as it's not his strongest point!
