dorothy wrote:Thanks Showtunes. She just has GSA now and RCS to try for . RCS is a bit of a longshot as they only take about 18 and that is via CUCAS so it doesnt effect her UCAS choices. GSA is probably going to be a no because of the sheer volume who apply. She is still waiting for a date for GSA which is a bit annoying as she asked for a Manchester audition and they still haent been arranged yet. I rang the other day and they said a possibility it may be 20 February and she really wants to do this one but the frustrating thing is you cant apply for anywhere else through UCAS until you hae rejections from them all so until GSA is sorted she cant try elsewhere.

She just got a no from LCM which is a shame as she really liked it there and felt it had gone well and was given a fair crack there as she was there from 10 to 3.30pm. If she gets nowhere this year she will try again there next year but she really wants to go somewhere this year if possible (although not necessarily anywhere). Anyway I guess what will be will be
We still havant had a date from GSA for Manchester either, you would think they would sort it out. Will bear in mind the 20th feb though thanks for that. I think the system of not being able to apply through ucas until you have heard from all your choices is very limiting. Very frustrating for you too.

Has anybody ever got a place on a MT degree course late on or through UCAS clearing or know of any who have. Presumably this is difficult as presumably you would still need to audition. Sorry if I sound a bit stupid about things.

My ds got into Arts Ed on the MT degree course on the very last audition of the year. In fact, there were three that were offered a place from that final day's audition so be positive. Thinking of everybody going through the audition process - very stressful times but so worth it in the long run.

Yes, he is in his second year and absolutely loving it although it is hard work. I have never seen him so driven so well worth the financial sacrifices.

Thanks for all the good wishes for ds recall to Manchester :)
Does anyone know if success in drama school auditions can often be the way you look rather than how you perform as my ds is 6ft 4 and slim, just wondered if it may go against him? Obviously, I know for parts a lot of it is the way you look but wondered if it was the same for drama schools.

In my DDs class there is a real mix in terms of height, weight, build, ethnicity, hair colour/style/length so I dont think it would hold him back. I know of one girl who is 5'11" who went to MV - admittedly has found it VERY hard to get parts since graduating. I think height is more an issue for girls than boys - thoiugh there are tall actresses around. But I would think in most drama schools there will be diversity

I agree with Welshmum. I don't think being 6' 4" and slim would go against him (sounds great to me!). All the schools I know about have taken all shapes and sizes. The trouble is, the reasons people are not accepted/successful are as varied as the applicants themselves - I just don't think you can second-guess anything.

GSA now seem to be sorting regional auditions Showtunes. DD has GSA Manchester Audition on 22 February so hopefully you will have heard as well . At least we will know whats happening after that so if its a no we can see if Chichester is still available to apply for. DD really liked that but didnt know it existed until after she had applied for other courses. Otherwise think it will probably be a gap year she may do 1 or 2 A levels (she is currently doing a B Tech Extended Level 3 in MT) at college instead and try and find some work . Hope all goes well for your dd

Hi my dd also got her audition through for GSA on the 22nd Feb. it's during half term so will have to drag my younger two with me. Will have to find something to do with them. My dd is also doing the same course as your dd. she has enjoyed it and I think it has given her a good grounding for the mt degree.

Think my daughter will be going on her own as I will be in work. Pity otherwise I could have said hello. Yes she loves her MT course as well (other than some in her class that dont take it seriously and she thinks mess around too much) but yes it is hopefully a good grounding

Hi everyone

Hi, yes, DS has an audition on Tuesday at Mountview and Friday at Rose Bruford, so quite a busy half term!! Week after he has one at the Drama Centre and the week after his recall at Manchester Met. He's still waiting on his date for the regional audition in Cardiff for GSA, they replied to our email saying they will set a date very soon.

Having problems getting a date sorted for mountview. They keep saying they have e mailed but we are not receiving anything. Rang this morning and they are getting someone to call me back. ](*,) my Ds is saying she doesn't want to audition there anymore though as has had feedback from others that they are awful and mean in the auditions. I've told her they can't be all that bad and its all experience plus we have paid for the audition anyway!

Hi Showtunes, ds nearly missed his email from Mountview as it went straight into his junk mail so if anything like the amount of junk ds gets, maybe worth looking back through.
Ds now has a cold so hope his voice will hold out.

I am sure some of the following has been said or discussed but thought i would post my daughters experiences in case others may gleen some useful snippets.

2012 Dd applied for MT at gsa, blackpool and fylde and Bath Spa plus acting as BSA, East15 and Rose Bruford (there were others but after coughing up the audition fees she got cold feet, something she regrets now)

BSA - 5 minutes, 1 shakespeare, 1 modern and a swift no. No feed back.
Rose Bruford, see above!
East 15 - All day audition, Lunchtime cut result offered the cert he foundation in performance
GSA a 30 min initial audtion in front of the head of MT and a lady from one of londons top agencies. However, she was the only one of 8 other auditionees to be asked to sing both her songs. 1 was asked to be a legato peice, the other any contrasting BUT anything from current shows is a no no.
Result, recall
Blackpool and fylde. Really impressed us when she auditioned. It was a full day (with a cut at lunch), whilst they were auditioning the parents were shown around by the head of course. he was ex Arts ed and really bigged it up. Facilities good and i would say to anyone else go see for yourselves. Result - Full offer 3yr BA MT
Bath Spa - again full day with dance, singing and monologues as per blackpool. Only a 2yr foundation degree with the option of a 3rd yr. This course is at Weston college, it was ok but nothing special. Result - full offer.
Dd then attend a saturday recall at GSA. After warm ups it was corner work, dance and then either singing or monoluge depending on which group you were in and then the wait for the lunch time cut. Her impressions were all good. Teachers engagded and no feeling of trying to catch you out.
She made the cut and then sang again and redid a monolugue with direction. This was followed by an interview where head of course told her they would offer her a place on the reserve.

Number of attendees
GSA 57 on recall day
Blackpool - 50 approx
Bath - 18

So she decided she wants to really do MT and only at drama school, so accepts reserve and declines other offers, doesnt get a full place but they offer her a place on the foundation course. With grandparents help she take this and then reapplies this year to the following (in order of audition)
Italia - Full of cold, feels awful, falls over during dance, voice cracks in legato. About 60 others there that day, no cut just a full day to show what you can do including an interview with the principal. Result - Full offer?!
Arts Ed - Went with 7 others from the gsa foundation course. 57 other auditionees. Dd makes the cut with her and 7 boys. Only one other gsa pupil made the cut. Sang again, did her monologues which are dictated by Arts one is directed. Had an interview and then 3 days later was offered reserve
Mountview - 137 other auditionees 6 from gsa foundation. They are streamed on dance ability (you get to pick your own skill level), do corner work and are taught a dance routine. Sing 1 song and then they cut you. 20 made the cut including Dd and 3 others from gsa foundation (note she said it was her first audition where she said the lads were stunning, all could sing and dance very very well) After luch they sing second song, do second monologue, no interview but they are given a chat about funding with Mountview indicating they are better off going down the SLC route rather than dada. result - pending
She has Urdang this monday then gsa and central in march and april. If any are interested i can give more specifics on the content of the auditions she has done if you think it helps. Be aware of course that these views will be subjective and whilst truthfull they are of course my perceptions. Feel free to ask i can help i will
