Hi everyone, just wondered if any of you could answer any queries I have about my Drama School auditions in a few months!
The Date LAMDA have given me for my audition is a Sunday - I was checking that this is normal to be given a weekend date (not that I mind!), and that it wasn't a mistake?
Also, in the email from Guildhall about my preliminary audition it only mention that I have to prepare 3 monologues and doesn't mention anything about a song -but on the website it says you do need song ???

Re: Guildhall and LAMDA Auditions??
Hello. I had a look at the LAMDA website and it looks as though all the regional UK auditions are weekend dates so I think it's probably correct.
As far as the Guildhall audition goes, I think you just need to go prepared to sing if they ask. As you say, it does clearly state it on the website. On the page about auditions it states:
Part 1: This consists of a 'warm up' movement and improvisation session. There is no preparation needed for this section, but you will need to wear clothes in which you can move freely. Loose fitting jeans and a T shirt are perfectly acceptable. You will be working barefoot and you should remove all jewellery and piercings.
Part 2: This is when the Selection Panel will see your pieces. Each candidate goes in turn, so you may have a long wait before you are seen. It is possible that you may also be asked to sing your unaccompanied song.
and on the advice page it says:
You should also prepare a short song which you can sing unaccompanied. This is not a major part of the audition; indeed, you may or may not be asked to sing at your preliminary audition. If you are, how you act it (i.e. tell the story) is more important than how well you sing it.
So it looks as though you are sometimes asked and sometimes not.

Re: Guildhall and LAMDA Auditions??
Just wanted to say that DD auditioned at LAMDA in London on a Sunday last year so it's not unusual! Re. Guildhall, worth preparing for all eventualities, just in case! Good luck

Re: Guildhall and LAMDA Auditions??
thanks for the reply!!!
About song choices, do you think it's ok to choose a song that is mainly talking as opposed to very singing-ish (if you know what I mean?) as I am not the best of singers but I don't want them to think I'm trying to cheat by not properly singing or anything?
Also, I don't suppose either of you happen to know the answer to this, but do you know where the first stage of Auditions for LAMDA/Guildhall takes place? For example is it on a stage where the panel are below or in a small room where you're very close to the panel, like in RADA?
It's just that I am quite worried about one of pieces as it quite a subtle and underplayed sort of piece that works very well when you're close to the audience, but I don't think it will work as well if you are really far away? I hope that makes sense!!

Re: Guildhall and LAMDA Auditions??
LAMDA audition was on same level as panel, not on a different level, and auditions were weekends, and LAMDA did not ask my dd to sing first round
