Any tips for shifting a cold and blocked, drippy nose

Any extra advice for shifting a cold and drippy sinus "issues"
Tried extra vit c and b12
Manuka honey
Olbus oil inhaler
Proctors
Any home made remedies you recommend I would be really grateful
A lot of it is down to lack of sleep stress, and rest but we just can't do anything about that at the moment .....

DD swears by Daily Immunity (a supplement from Victoria Health) ... she has managed to shake off a cold and escape all the bugs flying around at drama school since starting to take these ... might be worth a try?

R&R really is the best cure though so try and schedule some into the timetable!!!

Once this week is over things will calm down but can't do anything about it just now, apart from trying to ease the burden as much as we can

Poor thing. It's awful and always seems to come along at the wrong time. My advice is regular steaming...just plain steam with nothing added. Try to do it every hour if you can the old fashioned way with a bowl of water and the towel over the head. In through the nose....out through the mouth and drink plenty of water to flush out the system. Sounds a bit simple but it really does work and has saved me from many a situation vocally over the years (I used to be in the business myself for some time). Hope it helps you.

Haven't tried googling ... she only takes one a day so that lasts her two months ... having been knocked for six by glandular fever in Year 12 and then suffering from every bug going round in Year 13 and the start of drama school, I don't mind paying that if it helps keep her going ... and it does seem to be doing the trick ... she has the lowest absence for illness among the first year students

Ditto on the regular steaming, a drop or two of oil as on the bedside/pillow. Really blocked noses and sinuses respond to a 'salt water sniff' which my mum brought me up on, solution as for gargling but up one nostril at a time. Let it flow out.
In honey and lemon add a tablespoon of glycerin ( from boots) it's all they put in cough mix anyway but it's brill for soothing sore vocal chords. We swear by it - even in a water bottle to sip on through the day. Dd is a bug catcher extraordinaire so we use all these! Good luck. Xx

If you can get hold of a humidifier (Argos do them), they are wonderful to use at night time. The moisten the air which helps the airways and is particularly good if there is also a cough. I have found using Contac 400 (may have dropped the 400) really helps me. It doesn't cure the cold but it does enable me to breath better - particularly at night when lying flat. I actually get a good night's sleep. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Regarding the sinus, by the way, I find that if I tap my cheek whilst steaming (sounds odd I know), I can actually feel the sinus popping and easing a bit. Good luck.

I do find that since Ds has been having flu jabs his colds have been much less frequent, last year not one at all ( no stats for that just retrospect )

But he has had a real hum-dinger this time!!!

We were told First defence (nasal spray) at the first hint of a cold by an old & very wise director, it does work but only if you use it at the beginning, when you first feel like you are getting one. I agree with the steaming, towel over the head as the best from then on. Also a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a tissue folded up inside pillow helps sleep.

If you want to go the non-natural route, lemsip all in one capsules, do give a break from the constant streaming, not sure how old he is.

HI riverdancefan. Sorry to hear about the ill timed cold. When my dd recently had a cold a week before an audition we tried the steaming and manuka honey, vocalzone lozenges etc but I also got her to use the saline nose spray Sterimar 3 times a day to clear the thick snot. It seemed to do the trick in clearing the nasal quality of her head voice in time for the audition. It's £6.99 in Boots - an aerosol type tall thin can in a box, usually in an aisle next to the pharmacy section. ENT consultants love it for post op nose operation patients to clear potential infection.
