Sore throat
Looking for any advice please. My ds is playing john in a school production of miss Saigon at the moment. No show tonight but He's come home today and can barely speak let alone sing. Its the final show tomorrow and he needs to get through Bui doi. Any tips on what we can do that has worked in the past? Thank you

Re: Sore throat
Steam and sandersons throat specific gargle ( from pharmacists over the counter) ... Disgusting but it really works. Good luck!
Re: Sore throat
Dd also uses Sanderson's Throat Specific Mixture is for the relief of sore throats, Hoarseness, loss of voice, catarrh etc., and it works !!!
Tastes Ugh !

Re: Sore throat
This has happened to my DD as well - LOTS of steam, absolutely NO TALKING, hot manuka honey and lemon. before he goes on do lots of non vocalising warm up for the throat. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I'm going to call in the pharmacy this morning to get some.DOn't care what it tastes like he's going to have to take it. Has been walking around with a notepad trying not to talk. It's the last one tonight so hopefully he can just get through it.

Re: Sore throat
Oh bless him...
My dd uses vocal zones. Lozenges available from the pharmacy....
Hope he gets his voice back in time xxx

Re: Sore throat
If you want to keep remedies simple and quick, go for a spoon of natural honey with all meals and drink a small glass of water every 10 to 15 minutes. Work on me when I had been over using my vocal range in a show that I sang in literally every scene!

triple threat - the actor, singer and dancer.

The not talking really does help. My DD is presently rehearsing for the lead in a musical in her final year production - singing all day every day more or less. So when she gets in at night she doesn't talk, phone or anything, just gives her voice a rest and some tlc

I read an article about the girl who appeared in the production of My Fair Lady a few weeks ago and she said she lives like a nun when not on stage.

BTW my DDs vocal therapist (worls with all the top show and companies) has told her no singer should lift weights or do sit ups - produces far too much stress and tension in the throat. Good to know - DDs vocal problems improved when she heeded his advice.

Re: Sore throat
Really! I suppose it would. Never thought of that before! Throat is better this evening (far from right) but he hasn't spoken all day and has taken everything I have given him. They had so many rehearsals leading up to this show and did a 14 hr rehearsal before opening night. Many of the cast are struggling with their throats today! Thanks for all the advice x

How did it go Mogs?
I tried to get that stuff for my dd today as she has to do her first ever live solo set tonight at the XC studio Hemel Hempstead, and has gone down with a sore throat. No-one had it, but my dh said he's tried something called 'Diflam' which really worked for him, and so I got that instead. She's not a happy bunny though, but it's a bit late to pull out now, please send good vibes and healthy thoughts our way!

Re: Sore throat
Hope it goes well igloobabe - have experienced the same thing many times. My DD has always been prone to sore throats so has had to try all sorts of techniques to get through events. It is very annoying as her elder sister (who does not sing) rarely has a sore throat

Re: Sore throat
Sorry guys. I meant to post yesterday but ds has been so unwell. He got through it brilliantly
. I managed to get him to take honey and Sandersons which really brought his voice back (although his throat still hurt to talk or sing). You would never have known that he was struggling when he sang but it really took its toll on him. Thankfully it was the fiinal performance. He came home and went straight to bed and has been there since. Hasn't eaten since so we took him to the doctors this afternoon and he has a throat and chest infection - which makes what he did even more incredible! Antibiotics now so hopefully he will pick up soon. Thanks for all the advice and helping to get him through it x
