ISTD Exams & Lower Age Limits

Post by Moonshine »

Does anyone know how strict the ISTD is about its lower age limits? My DD is supposed to be taking her Adv 1 Tap in the summer but she won't actually be 16 (the lower age limit) until October.

I do not know for sure for ISTD but for IDTA I think the maximum is 6 months younger than the age limit but the school will have to advise age at the time of applying for the exam as there is an extra form to be filled in for the examiner on the day or something along those lines. I am not a teacher but my DDs have taken several exams a few months short of the age limit and their teacher mentioned something along the lines above to me. I expect it must be a similar situation for other exam boards.

Thank you for your reply 2dancersmum. All sorted now. I called ISTD and she's fine to take her exam. I was looking at the entry requirements for the old tap syllabus for which Adv 1 included teaching skills, hence the 16 yrs lower age limit.

DD took ISTD Advanced 1 tap last year, about 4 months before her 16th birthday...so I think they must have a similar rule to IDTA!

Your DD should be fine!
