Robsmumma
Congratulations!! That's wonderful news for your DD. I wondered how she got on at Laine. They audition 1000 applicants a year so whatever happens next that is still a huge achievement.
My DS went on the 28th - their final audition day. He got an email earlier to say that letters went in the post today!!
He's still seems set on Urdang though .... Laines was so very different in terms of feel - cannot question the standard of their training in any way though. Wondered what your DD thought? He was really impressed by the Laine boys auditioning from their foundation course - apparently it's unusual not to get on their Diploma from their Foundation.
He's got his Scholarship audition at Urdang on Sunday ..... the letter says 8.30 - 7.30! That's one long day.
Fingers crossed for all those still in the midst of this whole mad process.

Re: Applying for 2013
My dd loved Laines. She said it was THE place for her. She just loved the feel. I didn't get to go, I had to work. She will just have to try her best x
Re: Applying for 2013
That IS a long day, its not dd till the 21st. She has a full on two weeks! The Laine recalls are 15th 16th and 17th April, we ticked all 3, then Bird 19th ,Urdang 21st and Bodywork 25th, college Showcase 26th Phew, will be ready for a rest!
Re: Applying for 2013
That's heavy but so positive to have so many opportunities at funding. From what they explained at Laine does seem as if the Dada money may be spread out to more people than previously because of the means testing. I wanted to ask why their fees are more expensive than other colleges but didn't .... didn't seem appropriate timing. They did suggest their private scholarships might be given to those who can no longer access Dada funding ..... but still of course based on talent first.
We've not had our Cambridge day confirmed yet - just 25th or 26th? Imagine must hear soon. Somewhere in all this process trying to encourage some A level revision too!

Well done to your dd Robsmumma, that's great newsRobsmumma wrote:Just heard dd has a place at Laines. She is so excited. Now for funding audition. Anyone else going to that one?
She is almost 5ft 10 and when we have asked about if her height will hold her back, everywhere said not really. She is nicknamed legs at college lol. Fingers crossed she doesn't fall at last hurdle x

I have the same worry for my ds who is 6ft 4, he's more into singing/acting but I do wonder if it may hold him back.
Re: Applying for 2013
DS also got a place at Laines! Will wait until after Urdang recall to discuss next steps. He's not sure it's right for him - but a huge confidence boost nevertheless.
Re: Applying for 2013
Yeah! Well done. Another audition to attend now!

Re: Applying for 2013
It's looking like a gap year for ds, a no from GSA and just has RADA left next week, at least he can start planning for next year.
I was wondering if anyone has any info re student loans, one of the options for ds next year maybe an HND Acting course at the local college which has a very good reputation, it is a two year course although one of his friends has just got in to Rose Bruford after completing just one year. With funding I was wondering how many years student loan he would be entitled to if he did this course and was lucky enough to go to drama school afterwards, it would be 5 years.

Hi
As far as I'm aware,a student loan can be applied for up to 4 yrs. There is then the option of the career development loan but this needs to be repaid immediately after the year ends, unlike the student loan where you dont start paying it back till you earn £21000.
Re: Applying for 2013
So sorry for you and ds. Hope he is not too despondent. Still you never know maybe he will hit lucky with RADA. Good luck to him. As showtunes said i think student loans only covers funding for 4 years but unfortunately not foundation courses although it does cover HNCs and HNDs. My dd is not sure what she is doing yet. She is considering an HNC in maybe dance or acting for 1 year (they dont do HNC in MT at her college) but doesnt want to commit for 2 years as she wants to try again for 2014 and would like to if/when she gets somewhere go in from Year 1. Only another 6 months and we start againnigelben wrote:It's looking like a gap year for ds, a no from GSA and just has RADA left next week, at least he can start planning for next year.

Re: Applying for 2013
Hi Dorothy,
Yes my dd has accepted her place at chi uni now so its all systems go. We went to Chichester over the weekend and had a full campus tour of both sites as we never went to an open day there and dd didn't get to see everything on her audition day back in January. We were both very impressed with what we saw. The facilities are looked great, our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge about her course too which was great as we found out more info about the hours and stuff. So it's all good.
Glad to hear your dd has remained positive for next year. The HNC sounds great.

Re: Applying for 2013
Thanks Dorothy, so good to have this support on NAPM, it's helped through a very stressful time and like you say another 6 months and it will all start again!! That's exactly what ds was thinking, maybe do 1 year on a HND because he to wants to go in from year one if he gets into a drama school, his friend who got into Rose Bruford after doing the year on the HND had no recalls last year, he has another friend who had no luck at all last year but has had recalls everywhere this year and has got into LIPA, so it certainly gives hope that the gap year will really help. DS is also looking into other youth drama groups along with the workshop he does now which is mainly concerned with helping them with monologues/songs to get into drama school, he just feels he needs more performance especially as there will be no more school plays.dorothy wrote:So sorry for you and ds. though goodness knows what happens if she doesnt get anywhere next year. She may just get a job for this year. She has her youth theatre show coming up next week (Footloose) so has been busy with that so is waiting until after that to decide. She definitely isnt going to try and apply for anywhere else this year. Is your dd definitely going to Chi Showtunes? Good luck to her
Thanks for the info re the student funding Showtunes.
Re: Applying for 2013
Keep at it! This was Maxine Peakes experience! She is now a very successful actress
Peake's early attempts to enter the acting profession were unsuccessful. She was rejected by every theatre education company in North West England, and tried unsuccessfully for three years to get into Manchester Polytechnic Theatre School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. However, at 21, obtained a place at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Her attempts to find sponsorship for RADA were the subject of a 1996 documentary by the South Bank Show; eventually, after being put forward by RADA, she was awarded the Patricia Rothermere Scholarship.

Re: Applying for 2013
So nice to hear others in the same boat, Dorothy and nigelben. DS is probably going to do a foundation course if we can sort funding. I have to say the majority of the time he is positive and determined to try again next year having got so close, but does occasionally have a compete wobble when everyone around him is sorting their uni offers. I think maybe a year off (for me aswell!) would be good
Good luck to your DS at RADA next week nigelben, you never know that may be the right one.
