Re: Applying for 2013
Thanks everyone for your kind words of support, has been so comforting to hear of others going through the same emotional rollercoaster and not feeling alone
Sorry it was a no for your DS as well Tess, like you say, they have learnt an awful lot this year and will be so much more ready next (or should I say in 6 months-it's not long!!) Ds did have some good news, he's auditioned for a youth production of Grease for the Summer and had an email to say he has a part yesterday and should hear next week what part he has, so glad he has a fun thing to look forward to now. He's also going to Kavos with his friends-now, I'm not looking forward to that!! He will only have been 18 for 4 days before he goes!!

Re: Applying for 2013
Oh well that will be a baptism of fire! I think I would take the view of what I don't know...... My DS taking his driving test today!!!
It never seems to get any quieter, he has an audition for foundation course end of April.

Re: Applying for 2013
To Nigel, Tess and any of you with no's for this year, I wondered if this would be any use? It costs quite a lot but might be good on your DCs CV for next time. My DD is too young but I would consider it for later (and start saving!) because she does love Shakespeare. Hope the link works ok. x

Re: Applying for 2013
Hi all, I am not sure I am posting this correctly, but if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. My DD was offered a 3 year MT diploma last year at Urdang. Due to funds she deferred, in hopes of going through the process again and getting offered funding (DaDa or fee reduction) She was offered a small fee reduction last year, but still impossible financially to go. She had a funding audition (yesterday) but I'm not holding my breath for a DaDa, she feels she let herself down on the day, she was really upset after the long day. He heart is set on Urdang, and she is realistic about funding. She is 18, if she doesn't take the place in September 2013, will she be too old at 19 to start the audition process again for 2013/14 (she didn't give herself options this year, only applying at one other college where she was offered a foundation only)
My question is, can we apply for a student loan for this/these types of course?
Thanks everyone, It has been like medicine reading through your posts and knowing that I'm not the only parent out there that is going through the stress of all of this, not to mention our children

Re: Applying for 2013
I don't think she would be too old -but I would advise her to consider other places. I know they get their favourite places, but there are many places that will give her good training and she might find she is a better fit elsewhere or indeed get a place which is funded via student loans. It is a shame she feels she under-performed on the day, that is a horrible feeling, but don't second guess the outcome as our DCs are not always the best Judges of their own performances!! She obviously has talent as she has been offered a place - other places will spot her talent as well

Re: Applying for 2013
As far as I am aware, knowing of two of dds friends doing Foundation Courses at top drama schools in London at the moment, there is no funding for Foundation Courses. Really annoying seeing as you can do an 'Art Foundation Courses' that's fully funded and then still apply via Ucas for full Student Loan Funding afterwards for 3 year degree courseskatkit wrote:My question is, can we apply for a student loan for this/these types of course?

Re: Applying for 2013
Katkit
My DD was there too yesterday, was a very long day.
She also auditioned last year and was offered funding at only one place where she didnt really like! She is 19 now and seems to be doing better this year. One of her male friends auditioned and he is 23!

Re: Applying for 2013
Thanks for the encourgement. You are right and we were not able to get the applications out in time to the colleges we had in mind, for good reason. If she doesn't get any funding it is good to know 19 isn't too old to do this all again next year, thanks.Welsh Mum wrote:I don't think she would be too old -but I would advise her to consider other places. Robsmumma - thank you! Wow - there were so many people there yesterday! I hope the best for your daughter and her friend - so good to know that if this year doesn't work out, there is always next year. ThanksRobsmumma wrote:Katkit

Thank you Genevieve, I'll need to research more - there is so much for us parents to learn and understand!Genevieve wrote:As far as I am aware, knowing of two of dds friends doing Foundation Courses at top drama schools in London at the moment, there is no funding for Foundation Courses. Re: Applying for 2013
just to clarify - Art Foundation courses are free - so fully funded, and you don't pay for them at all.
Drama Foundation courses are not funded, no student loan available.

Re: Applying for 2013
Hi, we got the reply from Urdang yesterday, gutted to say she didn't get offered funding at all. Last year she was offered a small fee reduction of 10% but no reduction offer this year, really gutting.
Good Luck to all of your DC x

Re: Applying for 2013
Havent been on for a while so hope its all going well for everyone and sorry for those wanting dadas. Its a lottery isnt it. Hope your ds passed his driving test Tess and nigelben my dd is off to Zante in July so share your worry
. She has just finished Footloose with her youth theatre as Rusty which went really well. She was great as were the whole cast and loved it.
Rather random but out of the blue my dd got an email from a Uni in Wales (Wrexham) asking her if she would be interested in applying for their course which I think was Film TV and Theatre studies. It came via UCAS and she isn't going to apply although the course looked quite interesting but she has set her heart on applying next year to some of the places she didnt get in this year, I thought it was quite nice and it made her feel wanted (even if they are probably having difficulty filling the course) so there is always something out there
