First time round......very startled!!
Hi
Our daughter had been called to an audition on Thursday for a film.
Having "self filmed" first, we were amazed (and startled) to find that they would like to see her again (all happened within 48 hours)
Scripts have been delivered, breakdown of the role........EEK!
We feel its taken off before we have started to walk.
We realised there are 100's of others that will be seen so the chances are......well who knows, but are we doing the right thing?
Our daughter is 8, doing well at school and the head has supported her taking time out. I think we as parents are more scared.
Any tips or advise to stop me crying........please!

I'd say - relax and enjoy. It sounds like an amazing opportunity and if she's doing well at school this will only enhance her life experience. Try not to stress.

One thing you mustn't do is make too much of a big deal of it! Yes of course it's exciting and a bit scary but you need to play it down a bit for your DD's sake. If it's a major feature film it'll be early stages still so just tell her to do her best, enjoy it and learn from the experience. That she enjoys it is, for me, the most important thing.
Take a deep breath and plan the practicalities - I always find it helps if the prosaic stuff (like train times, car parks, looking at the venue on google street view) are all sorted.
Wishing you the very best of luck

How exciting! Good luck - I know it sounds really cheesy but it really is 'all good experience' and we have seen Dd's journey so far as learning a great life skill, taking no's on the chin and yes's graciously - fingers crosses for a yes and enjoy!

Re: First time round......very startled!!
best advice has already been given in all the posts, but can only reiterate fartoomuchtodo's post really -
I think our role as NAPMs is to make everything as calm and relaxed as possible, and try not to let the nerves show, as we get more nervous than them and it does transfer to them - she'll have a great time, and always look to the next job - Don't think about the other 100s auditioning, it's irrelevant, they've seen something in her, so try put the competition out of her head, going in with the frame of mind that she's as good as everyone else or she wouldn't have been asked to audition, and give it her best shot, as only the casting directors know what they're looking for. She's done so well to get this far, it's such an achievement. Wishing her good luck and enjoy the experience.

Totally agree with all the above. You have a great DD, a great opportunity, now try to enjoy it. My DD started out just 10 months ago, it feels like 5 years but its been great fun and, no big roles yet, but we are e
njoying the journey and enjoy the advice and support we get here with other NAPMs.
Good Luck!
Relax

Thank you for all your kind words.
Dd is very pleased and has enjoyed learning the script.
Will take the experience and let her enjoy the moment.
Good luck to all

Re: First time round......very startled!!
Please dont be discouraged by my comments as you have had some really great advice here already but you must keep perspective. The first audition is the start of a really long process and if she does well and gets to the next stage its great, but please remember she can be down to the last 2 after 6 or 7 castings and still not get it. My DS has been down to the final cut for some really big jobs and not been successful yet. The kids have to stay grounded and not expect anything. my dd 's phylosophy was always "expect nothing but give everything". It kept her sane!! As a parent be prepared for a huge amount of running around at very short notice, expense of travelling, and sacrificing holidays. etc. if she is successful. And finally always be sure she wants it more than you do! I would gratefully tear up my railcard if my ds and dd said " mum I've had enough". Hope thats not all too cynical but many parents underestimate what they are embarking upon. The very best of luck to her x

I too was going to say Good luck but also keep things in perspective for your child.
My ds had to have a break for 9 mths as he got fed up with getting down to final 2 and then not getting the part. It really hit him hard and it is has been an emotional roller coaster, he is now back on track and ready for the 'no's again. But he always says 'one day he'll get it'. As a parent you have to be there to support them through the ups and downs. Sadly in our case far too many downs.
I didn't want to put a dampener on your audition, that's brilliant, I just wanted to let you know someone elses experiences. I read your post and thought 'oh yes I used to be that excited!'
