Could someone give me some information about tolls please?:)

Post by Neesh5 »

Hi :)

I am a bit new with tolls, when travelling to some areas of London and would fully appreciate some info about it, as I live a bit far. :)

1) How do you pay for tolls (can you do it online, or can you just simply do it when you're travelling in that toll path lane on the way to London? Is there like a person who handles the money on that road)
2) When you pay for a toll and when you travel back home , do you have to pay again as you travel back that way?
3) How much is it? (for a car)

Many thanks everyone :) I hope my questions and written expression make sense! x

I assume you mean 'congestion charge'? ...Whenever we drive into London, I just do a payment online the night before. easiest way, then you don't have to worry 'bout it when you get there. :) :) link here: https://congestioncharging.tfl.gov.uk/b ... eferrer=cc

Ah thank you :) is it still okay to just give the money directly there anyway to the people on the road as you pass the booth? xx

as far as I'm aware there are no booths just signs saying you are entering an area that charges. I wouldn't want to drive in central London, I always go in on the train, or i parked at my daughter's in Surbiton and caught the train from there.

Definately no booths - it's not like a toll bridge thing at all. Big signs to warn you miles in advance of it starting though but if you want to drive into central London pay online first - the only way really. Bear in mind that you don't need to pay at weekends. The TFL website quoted above should tell you everything. IMHO though I would park at one of the outer London tube station (congestion zone is only inner London) and get the tube in - it'll cost you an arm & a leg to park anywhere in central London.

Number plate recognition is in place
Even if you forget to pay or inadvertently enter the C zone , you can pay within 24 hours ...
It's much better to take public transport if you can ..
