Is there a definitive list of the age colleges take from?

Post by Katymac »

I just wondered, so far I have worked out - for musical theatre (I think - please correct as necessary):

Arts Ed - 16 yrs level 3 diploma
Arts Ed - 18yrs level 6 diploma
Bodyworks - 16yrs level 6 diploma
London Studio Centre - 18 yrs degree
Millenium - 16 yrs level 6 diploma
Stage Works - 16 yrs level 3 diploma
Stella Mann - 16yrs level 6 diploma

I don't know any more......but I'm working it out - corrections/evidence would be welcome as would other colleges. This is an area I am very unsure of and as a mum it's something that confuses me & lots of the websites don't have "can apply at XX" in large friendly letters ;)

Hi Katymac - we're in same position dd will be applying for 2014 entry :?

London Studio Centre also do their own 3 year Diploma - take mainly from 18 but can audition at 16 no Dada but offer a few scholarships.

Laine - level 6 Dip take from 16yrs - Urdang level 6 Dip from 16 and Degree from 18 yrs - Bird - same as Urdang

Have tickets for Laine and Bird Summer graduate shows but can't do Urdang :(

All above are MT - I agree all very confusing! Spend a lot of time questioning others who have already gone through this - loads of help and advice on here for which I am always grateful :D :D

Updated list

Arts Ed - 16 yrs level 3 diploma
Arts Ed - 18yrs level 6 diploma
Bird - 16 yrs level 6 diploma
Bird - 18yrs degree
Bodyworks - 16yrs level 6 diploma
Italia Conti - 16 yrs diploma (no DADA)
Laine - 16 yrs level 6 diploma
London Studio Centre - 18 yrs degree
London Studio Centre - 18 yrs diploma (no DADA)
Millenium - 16 yrs level 6 diploma
Stage Works - 16 yrs level 3 diploma

To be honest Sue we can only really consider places that do the DADAs - we have no money at all and even with the DADA will will struggle to keep DD there.

Well done, a very comprehensive list - I would have loved that this time last year. We also applied to The Centre - based in Rochester. No DaDAs but do offer scholarships (up to 100% I believe) from age 16. Didn't actually get to the audition because DS offered a place by then but was recommended by Head of Dance School. Great facilities. They were at Move It this year - reports very positive.

We followed the advice of DS teachers for applications - supported by his own research, open days etc. Hope that helps a little - happy to answer any questions - if I can

If we can make this list as complete as possible then it will be useful for lots of people (parents, students, dancers & teachers) I'm surprised one doesn't exist....but I have looked

LIPA is age 18 and a degree course but they don't offer a course in Musical Theatre. They do either acting or dance (both involve some vocal /drama/ dance training.
