KS Dance - DD has a friend currently in year 11 who has been offered a place to start in September on a level 6 diploma course - dance. So I would say age 16, level 6 diploma but I have no idea about funding. You can do teaching qualifications alongside.

Level 3 qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels and usually will require 5 GCSE passes at C or above. If a DC didn't achieve this then colleges might offer a level 2 which usually leads on to the level 3 course but obviously means an extra year. If your DD wants to take A levels then she would have to either choose A levels related to performing arts or continue with out of school training and then audition with other 18 year olds so Inter/adv levels of dance etc. As in art it would also be possible to take a foundation course after A levels but sadly unlike art I don't think there is funding for foundation courses in dance/performance so you would be looking at paying for this (might be scholarships?)

Thanks for the very useful info Katymac.

Here is another addition for your list. Preston College Dance Academy. I think this also offers singing and drama if you want it and you can gain all your dance teaching qualifications at the same time. I think it is 16+ but courses are available beyond 18 too. Scholarships for £1500 are available for gifted and talented students (as in money for the student because fees will be free for 16-18). I only know about this from scanning their website though and don't have any experience of the college. It does seem to be gaining a good reputation though. You can take all your dance exams eg ISTD and RAD while at the college. Actually this might be amazing value for money if all these lessons are free within the 16+ course. I would like to hear from anyone who knows about the courses here.

Great piece of work Katymac + friends. Would be good to keep this 'live' on the site. My DC's are too young yet but would definitely be looking for something like this in years to come. Well done to you all for your contributions.

Thanks CatKat

I was wondering if it would be worth spliting into Dance Vs Musical Theatre Vs Drama maybe; loads more work but useful info

It's a shame we couldn't set up a private wiki to hold all the info in a sensible format with links to peoples posts for additional info

Hi everyone,

It would be really good if it was split especially for those of us not totally sure which area our DCs are aiming for. A lot more work for you but if you have the information on a spreadsheet, it might be easy enough to split? I've started getting brochures from places now as the information has helped so much. Just wondering if we are looking at going at 18 (i.e. after sixth form) when's the best time to go looking around places - don't want to do it too early but don't want to leave it all to the last minute. DD is in Y10 at the moment. Thanks very much for all of you who have been through it already, we can learn a lot from you. 8)

But how would a spreadsheet be visible on here?

It will just get bigger & bigger posts being reposted again & again to amend tiny details

Came across this one the other day :
D&B School of Performing Arts - offers 3 year musical theatre course. Scholarships (Not DADA) are available and fees seem considerably less than many of the other musical theatre colleges. Scholarships include those offered by The Stage . Teacher training courses are also on offer but these are from age 17. There is a summer taster course in August for the mt course. Might be of interest to some of you.
