Re: Should we give up?
Welshmum, I would love to go to drama school but my parents are dead set against it and since they would be paying for uni they ultimately have the last say in the matter and if they don't approve of the course they will pull out the money and I will have to rechoose courses. Also on the cv front, I am always looking for opportunities to expand my CV there just aren't many out there. The thing is I generally deal with setbacks very well but recently I have had so many too tall but perfect otherwise I just feel a bit sad.
One day everyone will make it, but for now I'm still waiting http://www.starnow.co.uk/phoebespence1

You will grow into your height - just hang on in there and do as much as you can to learn your craft. Something will come along and when it does you'll be ready for it.cupcakephoebz wrote: The thing is I generally deal with setbacks very well but recently I have had so many too tall but perfect otherwise I just feel a bit sad.

My Flo is going to be tall - she is just turned 11 and already heading rapidly towards 5ft. So she outgrew junior lead roles before she was old enough to compete for them. We feel your pain!
But she is constantly performing in all sorts of ways, professional and amateur. So there's every chance you will find your niche. For example, if you have a clear and adaptable voice, have you thought of radio?

Well you have 5 years to try and make them change their minds

But all this is a long way off. Enjoy your drama opportunities - if you are finding it hard to find local groups etc try asking others on here from your area - they may well know of others you can get involved in.

Anyone see the fella on BGT who's father changed his uni course to business or IT studies instead of music? Think he's proved them wrong by getting to the semi finals of BGT. Can't remember if he's in the final now. Keep following your dream but always have a back up plan. Good luck! I only went into nursing 24 years ago coz my parents said I would never become a nurse!!! I've had the praise since and they've told me they were wrong! Best of luck DC

Never give up.......... many actors don't get their first big break until late in life. Sometimes it might be healthy to combine another career along side acting which in turn may provide valuable life experiences which you can then pull on in casting situations. My DD has her heart set on a job in the medical field and wants to continue to act along side this - for fun. We stopped going down the route of drama exams, coaching, singing lessons, speech and drama competitions etc several years ago and swapped to with an attitude of 'just be yourself' when it came to castings. Yes DD continues to have successful castings and DD lack of coaching has certainly not been detrimental. 90% of DD castings are direct and not through her agent. Can't help feeling casting is a bit like when you are trying so hard to get pregnant and can't - you stop trying so hard and then IT happens.

wasn't Tom Cruise going to become a Priest before acting ?

Re: Should we give up?
Hi everyone, just want to say goodbye for a little while. I think that I am going to do student films and amateur productions for a while and maybe join a modelling agency to try and get some commercials or even print work so that I can apply to acting agents in two years when I am 16. But till then I will still pop back every now and again x

Wishing you all the very best cupcakephoebz.
Just wanted to say though, this site is not just for those who do paid, professional work. Lots of the people who post here do mainly amateur work/student films. Paid work is rare!
Thank you for all your contributions and best of luck to you.
