Dwafffamily were you in the group before the 5pm slot?My dd( who is 7) was in at 5 and I'm sure they didn't have all the acrobatics!Strange they should put in such a range of ages though...

I agree Dwaffamily- we have always said to DD that as long as she comes out feeling she has given a good show of herself then that's the main thing- if her face doesn't fit or whatever then hey ho, it's been an afternoon outing! And re the back flips etc there was a girl limbering up in our waiting area in similar fashion who (accordimg to DD) in the room, when asked to do a few moves, got up and twirled around a couple of times and sat down :? !

I believe because they need 10 children who are a range of ages and a range of skills they put them together to see who matches up and who is able to work well with younger or older children. It IS hard for the smaller and sometimes less experienced children although some of the older children can sometimes be less experienced than the smaller ones which can cause a different kind of uncomfortable feeling.
Sound of Music auditions there was a huge range of heights and ages right from tiny Gretyls to tall Fredrichs and they have to do it this way so they will be sure to match the right children.

No, he was in the 2pm time slot and the only U12. We also had the pleasure of watching his group doing all their flips etc for a full half hour as we weren't called in till 2.30. Talk about having it rubbed in ya face eh?! To top it all HE was the one who had to go first in EVERYTHING!

The 3pm slot arriving had a far better range in ages. Oh well, can't do anything about it now!

From what I can gather,I don't think they were necessarily looking for stagey, flamboyant kids, rather quirky, natural, and or vulnerable/likeable,so I don't think you need to feel intimidated by the acrobatics, far from it!

They don't want kids who appear too old. These are PRIMARY age children with the cute factor who can be naturally quirky and funny. There are two groups they need. One of kids with traditional talents and one with extraordinary talents such as back flips etc.
I've re read the brief and it asks for ages from 6 - 14 with a playing age up to 12 'must look like they attend primary school'.

Think you shouldn't worry too much about the acrobats...if you look at the original film there is an 'audition sequence' where the children audition to be in the Nativity play..the children did everything from burp the alphabet to making their armpit squeak by pumping their arm up and down! It was very childish and funny and most of all natural. Agree with earlier posters - they will be looking for sweet (primary school) age kids who make them laugh, perhaps a bit quirky but also be able to sing act and dance! Maybe the acrobatics would be more suited to the 'posh school' characters who as part of the story would be olympic standard in everything. They did have older kids in the last film - the oldest was about 14. Debbie Issitt's daughter was in it too and she's a teen.

Yay, well done to your DD Mouskouri14, think I'm going to have to find the film to show my DS as we aren't familiar with any part of it. See you next week.
