Contracts and Insurance

Post by sundogs »

Hello,

My brother has been cast by a big production company and rehearsals begin on Tuesday. However, so far we have received no information regarding contracts and have no information apart from a schedules and a script. Is this normal?
A family friend has pointed out that he may not be covered by any insurance unless a contract has been signed? We also think we should be given enough time to read any contracts rather than be rushed into signing. Any info about this would be much appreciated. We know things have been very busy for the company as they have cast relatively late and licences have taken a while to come through but we feel a bit in the dark and keep getting information in dribs and drabs.

Thanks :)

Congratulations to your brother =D> =D> =D>

Isn't his agent dealing with the commercial negotiations and arrangements for him? Perhaps a call to them would put your mind at rest?

Good luck

If I remember rightly your little Bruv didn't have agent?
Is that right?
Really they are cutting it fine are they not?
Maybe PG or Paulears will have some advice?

You are right he doesn't have an agent so nobody to deal with anything on our behalf.

A lot of company's don't give you a contract untill you start filming when DS was in EastEnders we never got the contract till he filmed children in EE don't get a yearley contract they get it by every block they do so that they can get rid very quickly the same happened with Tommy Zoom. DS and his brother did not get contracts when doing films did on day of filming. If the production company are a big well known company then you don't need to worry. Has your mum been told how much your brother is getting paid? If not then your mum should ask. That is the best about having a agent they sort out how much you are getting paid. If its for TV then the daly rate is about £250 a day except for BBC where children are very poorly paid can be any thing from £36 to £60 depending in how experienced they are. Some contracts which are Equaty contracts have to pay the child 1/2 of what a adult gets. Adverts are about £250 then buy out which can be any thing from %100 to %600 or more of daly rate % depends on how many people reside in the country. Hope that helps

Thank you for sharing your experiences. It is a large theatre production company and we don't know how much he is getting paid yet just that the office is being chased up to supply contracts. Just a waiting game.
Any idea if he would be covered with their insurance without a contract being signed?
