agents for 18 year old

Post by CAH123 »

Hi,
I know there are a lot of posts about agents but there aren't any really about ones 18+ year olds. I'm a bit stuck with which ones to apply for, do I go for adult agencies? And can anyone suggest any good ones in the UK?
Thank you!

There are children's agencies that have a sort of "extended" list and look after young adults too. This might not be a bad place to start.

If you get hold of a copy of Contacts you can start doing some research and narrowing down the field of the ones you want to apply to.

It is worth bearing in mind that you will now be in competition with a much larger group of performers, including those who have trained at drama schools. Getting decent agency representation as an adult is tough for most actors.

Are you now "in the workplace" or are you continuing with your studies anywhere?

Could you tell me a bit more about what you are hoping for/what your circumstances are? I would be glad to offer more specific advice/thoughts if I can.

I don't think I'd recommend that one as an actors' agency tizzy :D

2,500 people on their database? That's not an actors' agency I'd want to belong to! It's to be expected that an extras agency will have a large number of clients, but then the casting of extras is usually done quite differently from the casting of actors (there are a few exceptions).

Ideally you want an agency where one individual agent is not looking after more than 50 or 60 clients. An agent needs to know what each individual actor can do. You don't want to be in competition with others in the agency - there is enought competition from other agencies.

A CD will respect an agency that always suggests actors that are just right for the brief - that doesn't just mean looks - it means skills and experience too. Your agent has to know who you are.

When I was looking for one for ds, I researched which agencies popular teenage actors were with and then sent them emails with his CV etc, and probably followed it up with a call. They normally want to see you in something, so if you have a clip or showreel, that would be better.

Good luck!

Hi,
Thanks for the replies!
I've just finished my A levels and will be taking a gap year next year to gain work experience, do volunteering and continue acting. As of the moment, I'm not too keen on doing drama school as I don't think it would really suit me and don't think it's necessarily the best route. But I am definitely worried about the competition/ being left behind!!
I have got a copy of last years contacts that I have begun to research through but just wondered if there were any prominent ones anyone suggests? I am already with a childrens agency but am looking to renew my contract and am concerned that they are more geared towards getting childrens parts.
Thank you,
Charlotte
