Audition for drama school

Post by mogs »

Hi. My son is in the process of sending off an application form for a two year btec course at Italia Conti Arts Centre. They have asked for 2 contrasting acting pieces, approx one minute in length. Please excuse my ignorance but do they mean two monologues? if so, do they have to be certain pieces? He's 15. I've googled monologes for teenagers but i just dont know where to start! Do we just pick 2? Has anyone just been through this or could point us in the right direction. Thank you.

They do mean monologues. Contrasting can mean different things - modern/classical, or funny/sad etc. Try to choose characters near in age to your DS. If you cannot get one monologue long enough then it is OK to join together shorter ones e.g. take a duologue and edit it by removing one character's lines.

Having never had a teenage son I am sure someone else will come up with far better specific examples than I can :)

Good luck!

Welshmum is right in what she says. I would add that it might be useful if one of your monologues/acting pieces showed some movement? I think they would prefer that to two static pieces. Good luck :)

Thank you both for your replies. Taking on board what you've said, we've gone with a funny/sad one and the funny one involves movement :D Had them off a site for teenagers so fingers crossed they'll work for him
