Advice we were given for leotards was first and foremost go with a leotard that your DD feels good in, nothing too fancy with lots of straps, lace, decoration etc. As felixgirl says a classical leotard is a ballet leotard rather than jazzy. I agree that most will probably wear a camisole leotard with thin straps. High cut leg can be good too. I imagine the leotard your DD wears would be ok (I could not get the link to work but am assuming it is the PO1 leo), although that style in our experience has been for the lower grades (ie up to grade 5). After that ballet girls at our studio go to the vocational thin strapped leotard (for RAD). One you might consider if your DD prefers a thicker strap is the Wear Moi Titania or similar. However, as I said at the start, your DD will dance best in what she is most comfortable in and it is the dancing that interests the audition panel more than what they are wearing.

That's nice - does it have a shelf?

The one she likes (http://www.dancedirect.com/uk/Products/Ballet/P01/ don't know why it didn't work) - has a great shelf so no bra needed, but some of them the shelf is a bit thin

Katymac - that looks absolutely fine for ballet, although I suspect, like Felixgirl, quite a lot will wear camisole (thin strap) style but the main thing is that she feels comfortable \:D/

She likes it & I think it suits her bodyshape - so we will probably go with that - although I'll offer a new one.

She just got her reference from her ballet teacher; either she really like DD or she wants to get rid of her fairly smartish ;)

I would imagine that your DD's dance teacher loves her.....she sounds like a fabulous dancer and a lovely person to boot!!

Back on leotards.....she should absolutely wear whatever she's comfortable in...but point out that others will be wearing some more dramatic styles...so she knows what to expect!!

DD wore different leotards for every audition (depending on the instructions) but her favourite ballet leotard is a bit like this http://www.dancedirect.com/uk/Products/Ballet/BD101/ (not exactly the same, but similar!!).

Dd would hate that one - not enough support

I think she wore that leotard in her DVD audition - did I link to it before?

Dont get too stressed out about what they wear for audition. Have seen it all.

My DD turned up for a DaDA audition without any ballet stuff at all. She rang me from the train and said she had forgotten it!
She borrowed tights from another girl that were too small and holey and the college lent her a pair of size 12 (I kid you not) mens ballet shoes. The panel were very amused at the fact her feet moved but the shoes stayed put lol. They commented on her pretty leotard.
She thought she had blown it only to be offered a DaDA 2 days later!

I completely agree Robsmumma........it really doesn't matter what you wear!! Your DD was brilliant to cope so well with that little trauma.....very funny story now though!!

I would only say that it's as well to know what the others are likely to be wearing/doing so you're not fazed by any of it!!

Robsmumma - what a tale - funny now you can look back on it but not at the time.

Katymac - no the Titania does not have a shelf though my DD finds it ok. If your DD would like a camisole with thin straps have you tried the Capezio Bratek leotards. They have a built in bra for extra support rather than just a shelf.

This I give for future reference. She should wear whatever she feels good and comfortable in for her auditions.

Actually that's really odd; DD's teacher just came up to me after class to say they are changing their uniform leotard to this one; would DD like one?

Really odd!

All the photos were taken last night; DD was on the stage & her teacher was very shouty to make sure she stood as best as she could (especially for the arabesque!!) ;)

Now we just need to pick - DD pulled some very odd faces while it was happening

Now I get to use a years supply of photo paper printing them out!!

How are you producing the photos for the applications? Have you just printed them yourself or have you sent proper photographs?
