DD has a lot of auditions
So good food, lots of rest, multi-vitamins, face-mask to avoid catching germs
So we have booked her flu jab & gel nails
We are working out leotards/tights/shoes & doing an MOT on them all
She has a folder for each which will have college address/letter,song score, solo dance music & monologue for each but she is also taking her singing folder in case they don't like her song & her iPod in case her CD doesn't play is incompatible
Must remind her to do pilates/yoga DVD when she has time
We have 2 Monologues & 5 songs - that is the lowest number we can get away with to meet the requirements
Oh & all her pink tights are soaking in Vanish over night
I started thinking about this yesterday on BalletCoForum but thought I should start it here as well; people think differently on each forum which adds to the communal knowledge (IMO - I could be wrong)

Re: Audition preparation
As I said previously I think you have it all covered. I know its not easy but try and take a deep breath and relax. You and your DD seem very organised. Personally I think this stage is every bit as bad as the waiting for the results of audition letter - the anticipation and the unknown. Once the auditions get underway it is not as bad. If you are a worrier you will still worry (I did) but both DD and myself actually enjoyed each and every audition. DD regarded each one as a positive learning experience, regardless of outcome, and came out buzzing every time. I enjoyed spending time with her, meeting new people - and the same ones over and over so I had someone to chat with over a cup of coffee while we waited. I also think it is rather good that you have auditions bunched together as you won't have results from one when you go to the next. It might be a boost if the news is good but I suspect that even those getting a multiple offers of places get their share of 'no's thrown into the mix.
Are you going with DD to any auditions?

Re: Audition preparation
Not Arts Ed, Brit or Urdang as she has been there
Laine, Bird & Performers definitely as she can't get there/stay over night without me
Millenium, Italia Conti & Bodyworks we haven't decided yet.......
Sometimes I think clustered is good - but DD is less sure & sometiems I think it's a nightmare & DD says 'It'll be fine' in my tone of voice

I loved this 2dm, I agree it is such a privilege to be able to spend quality time with our teenage daughters (and sons).2dancersmum wrote:I enjoyed spending time with her, meeting new people - and the same ones over and over so I had someone to chat with over a cup of coffee while we waited.
My Dd can be a very typically stroppy, uncommunicative teen. As you know yesterday we spent a fabulous evening together at the theatre. On the way home she said 'I do love you mum'. It was so unexpected it brought a tear to my eye. It reminded me of when she was about 3 years old and quite spontaneously said ' I love you more than cheese'

I have also met some fabulous mums at auditions, rehearsals, dance schools, CAT scheme etc and whatever the future brings, we have both made friends for life through her dancing.

Re: Audition preparation
I'm amazed at the difference in the requirements for all the different college auditions
Classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary & Tap; workshops in singing or acting; 1 or 2 monologues, 1 or 2 songs, no or 1 or 2 solo dances or a song & dance performed
Each one is so different
