Auditions: cuts and recalls/2nd Auditions

Post by Katymac »

As some (most) of you know, I like to leave a nice easy record of 'what I found out' to help the next year of auditionees (or more likely their parents ;) ). So my lists so far are:

Colleges that do 'cuts' during the day (ie ask you to go home)

Performers
Arts Ed (at 18)

Colleges that have a recall

Not sure yet....

College that recall for DADA allocation

Laine
Urdang
Tring

Colleges that tell you if you have a place & a DADA after 1 Audition

Bird

Now as always if I've got it wrong please correct me and please add what colleges you know about so the list becomes comprehensive.

Thanks!

Ok I think the following is true. It is based on memory from last year and all for post 18 Diploma/degree courses

GSA - Short 1st audition and Recall
Central (RCSSD not the dance one!) - Cut at lunch. Possibly another recall too?
Arts Ed - Cut during the day
Mountview - Cut during the day
Royal Scot - Cut during day and a further recall day
MTA - Single whole day audition with no cuts.

For the record I would highly recommend the MTA audition. DD had the result of the audition emailed through to her with WRITTEN FEEDBACK on all 3 areas by midnight that night! =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> And they apologised for the delay!

Bodywork in Cambridge have a DaDA recall around the end of April.

Oh and Contis dont have a recall. They told me that they score everyone on the audition and then at the end of auditions they see who has scored the highest and award DaDA to them

I know most parents DC on here are applying for MT, but DS auditioned last year for mainly BA Acting courses and the cut/recalls were as follows:-

Bristol Old Vic 15 minute audition, told by email after a couple of days if successful/unsuccessful in getting through to a recall workshop
Drama Centre cuts during the day
Manchester Met half day audition, result through UCAS couple of weeks after if successfully through to a recall workshop
RADA 15 minute audition, letter a couple of days after with result, if successful go through to a recall audition
LIPA Half day audition/workshop/shown around, letter after 3/4 days with result.
Rose Bruford 10 minute audition, look around school, email if successfully through to recall, advised through UCAS if not.

MT BA courses:-
GSA just had to sing a song in front of panel and all auditionees, result through UCAS
Mountview, as GSA but cuts through the day.

This was DS experience but may be different if successful in the places he wasn't and unsuccessful in the places he was, if that makes sense!!

Can I just include a warning to re check arrangements every year because colleges do chop and change their requirements and procedures. But a great idea Katymac :)

Colleges will tell you if you ask, many have the procedures on their web sites

Of the colleges that recall for DADA does everyone who's been offered a place get recalled or just selected students? I know the DADA places are few and far between :)

I thought everyone who got a place & wanted a DADA were recalled; but I suppose they could give a DADA just like that if they liked someone

I wish this had been here when we did our auditions! I can confirm that Central do a cut at lunch time then do a further final recall on another day.

Well done Katymac, very useful.

Thanks Tess

I find a 'paper' (on-line?) trail very useful......have to say I'd prefer a spreadsheet........ but then I am a bit OCD (seriously, I'm not just joking around - I need to control the things I can because there are things I can't control ](*,) )

The Hammond - cut at lunch (definite no), complete full audition day - hear by letter afterwards with offer of a place or a no thank you. Recalls in March for allocation of DADA awards.
Northern Ballet School - full day audition, results by letter afterwards. No recall audition - DADAs are allocated according to how they have scored them at initial audition.
