Auditions coming in thick and fast...

Dd2 - Elmhurst 16th Jan 2014
Dd2 - Northern Ballet 22nd Jan 2014
Dd1 - Blackpool 22nd Jan 2014
Waiting to hear from Rambert (processing application) and ENBS (Dd2).
Waiting to hear from Chichester, GSA, and LIPA (Dd1).
And am working Christmas Day on sleep in through to Boxing Day (ah, well, the money will be useful!)

Another audition date through for dd2. 20th Jan for Dance College South West - her back up in case of further 'no's' for ballet schools. Looks good though - starts the day at 9.30am with hip hop, then jazz then ballet then lunch. Afternoon is the interview and solo dances. She can still continue with RAD Adv 1 and 2 ballet classes, plus her Russian ballet classes and Youth Ballet Company around college classes so a good back up

LIPA finalised - 26th Jan. Scotland Conservatoire through - 25th Jan. Impossible to do both as it would mean dd1 would miss her hour's singing/acting lesson which she wants to do on the 25th before LIPA on 26th. Dd2 has her English National Ballet audition on 25th Jan!
Does anyone know if Scotland Conservatoire offer more than 1 London date for MT? If not, it'll mean an expensive trip to Glasgow
My diary's a nightmare! Hope I don't have to go through this again in 4 years (ds wants to do music - drumming at the mo!)! Actually, if anyone has any advice on music that would be great

Is it only impossible because of the singing/acting lesson? If it is a choice between missing the lesson or the trip to Glasgow you may need to consider how much value you place on that final lesson in the grand scheme of things vs extra cost and what will be missed at home and school when you travel to Glasgow. Good luck to both of your DDs with all their auditions. A very busy time.

It's partly the hour lesson....dd1 wants to do that one as she says she'll feel happier seeing her teacher (who trained at LIPA) the day before the LIPA audition plus the logistics of taking two dds to auditions on the same day! Dh has Aspergers and both dds prefer me to take them as dh makes them stressed

GSA through now...13th Feb. Had another date through from Scotland Conservatoire which clashes with LIPA so think it will be a trip to Glasgow. Dd1 happy though as she'd now prefer to see the Conservatoire! Still waiting to hear from Chichester and that will be all finalised apart from recalls (recalls would be nice but not counting chickens!).

Scotland Conservatoire on 8th Feb at 9am. Still not heard from Chichester (only one not finalised) - 11 auditions in total for both dds. Will be so glad after Rambert which at the moment is the last one on 25th Feb unless we have finals too!

DS has had a very positive start to his auditions So far he's had 4 out of 11 and has been recalled to all of them including RADA which is so much more encouraging than last year.

He has had 3 of the recalls (just got a letter from RADA saying unsuccessful, but very happy to have had a recall there) and has his 4th recall at MMU in April.

He has had offers at both Oxford and East 15 for the foundation courses, he really wants the degree and plus we have no way of funding it although I think you may be able to get funding for the foundation at East 15. Although it is his second year of auditioning he is still only 18 which I know is young but he has certainly matured since last year. Just wondered if anyone could offer advice as to why he is getting offers for the foundations and not the BA degree. I know it's early days as he still has 7 left, but would be interested to hear any ideas.

I don't know about acting but DD got 3 foundation/pre-voc for MT& I just thought it was because she wasn't ready yet

Then she ended up getting offers from her first & her last auditions, so I wondered if she over trained in between times

Although I am a big fan of OSD having trained there - I wouldn't recommend doing a foundation course unless you have lots of spare money!

In my opinion the foundation courses provide lots of very enjoyable/valuable experience - but there are many much less expensive ways to get good experience while waiting for/trying for a place on a degree course. A place on a foundation course holds no guarantee of going on to get a place on a degree course. I think foundation course places are often offered to younger, obviously keen, talented students who (in the opinion of the auditioners) are not quite ready for the degree course.

I don't think it's possible to say "why" with any kind of certainty. If he is getting recalls for degree courses then that is a really good sign. Schools look for different things. DS was turned down at the first round at some, had recalls at a couple of others and was turned down after the recalls - and then was offered places at others including a place at RADA which was the one he accepted. I suspect - but don't know - that there was some kind of serendipity/rapport at the early audition and then, through the four rounds of auditions at RADA he really had the time and was given plenty of opportunity to show them the potential they were looking for.

Pleased your son is having a more positive response this time round NigelBen. Second time round for my dd and she has done 2 auditions so far, LCM and Chichester (Triple Threat), A no again from LCM but an unconditional offer from Chichester on the MT Triple Threat. 5 more auditions to go but its so much less pressure for her knowing she has a place if need be. Hope all goes well for all auditionees

Thanks pg, I would agree completely with what you say about foundations. DS goes to a really good, supportive part time actor's workshop. Reading on the school websites, the main point of a foundation is to make sure they really want to do a 3 year course, DS already has no doubts that's what he wants to do. He very much liked Oxford and I think it's great that they give feedback if you ring, the comments he received were very positive. We thought before he had his letter he may well be offered the foundation as he was asked in his interview if he had thought about doing a foundation.

As I say, early days and hopefully there will be a positive outcome
