covering letter

I am applying to an agency in the new year as they are opening there books for new clients but they said they needed a cv, headshot and covering letter, i did the cv and got a headshot but i don't really know what to put on a covering letter ?
Can someone help me out please

Basically the covering letter should just be a very brief note saying why you are writing and highlighting your key selling points i.e. what you have to offer!
