Yes, both Dds are doing exams - Dd1 is doing A2 levels in English Literature, History and Biology and Dd2 sits her GCSEs in the summer with high expectations from her teachers for A*-C grades in every subject!

Jaylou Glad to hear your DDs have great sounding back ups. DD2 is hitting 5'9 now and although still doing all her dance classes the idea of taking it further seems to have faded. She just feels too tall now and not dainty enough. She has always wanted to do MT and is fitting in some drama now. No luck with recent NYMT audition but will have a go at YMT for a bit more experience with auditions. We do have a decent college not too far away that does performance BTEC so she may choose that or A levels. She is in Y10 so GCSEs to get through first. Good luck with the rest of the journey for your DDs.

Thought some of you may be interested in this fascinating blog on the whole drama school process, it's by s girl who's been in productions with my Dd and Amanda's dd and probably many more!

It shows there's more than one way to train :)

Hi all, I've been reading everyones posts and want to say a very HUGE contractulations to all of your children (and YOU Mums and Dads) who have achieved successes this year! My DD is just starting out (again) on her audition rollercoaster this year.

Sadly her first audition was Arts Ed this week, although she knew it was 'the impossible dream', she just loves it, its the dream of thousands. Sadly she got the dreaded 'no' on the day, despite believing she had really aced it on the day and had a glimmer of hope she'd get recalled. Does anyone know what type of girl they look for in Arts Ed, or if there is a type? She was there on Tuesday 11th, was anyone else's DC there then? It was soul destroying (for me) to see the amount of young ones queing outside waiting to get in to prove themselves! They were told on the day there were 50 places, more go to boys, and there had already been between 2000-3000 auditions!

Fortunately she did gain from the day, but for me it is the start of the worry.

Next audition is Bodyworks, Masters, The Centre, London Studio Centre, Urdang, Performers and Millenium. Fingers crossed :)

Hi Kitkat,
My DD was there on Monday and had a similar experience. She felt that it had gone really well and she had done herself justice but was not recalled.
The numbers are just crazy aren't they?
I have no idea what they are looking for with so much talent out there. DD said that they hadn't picked the ones she thought they would in her group.
I did wonder if they almost look at it as putting together a company and so want a range of people covering different vocal ranges, ethnic groups, hair colour, height, build, strengths, genders etc.
We will probably never work it out!

my dd was also there on Tuesday and thought she did well too..but she said they took just blonde girls (who were not the best in the group), and that the boys auditioned separately..so you never know quite what they are looking for.. :?
I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.......

I've just had a look on their website at the headshots of the 2014 graduates. I cant really see a pattern or an Arts Ed look - slightly more boys than girls and more brunette girls than blonde ones. The trouble is we are trying to analyse and make sense of a crazy world. ](*,)

Have been told by a friend who has a dd at Tring 6th form - Artsed do indeed look at putting together a company each year so are casting as well as auditioning. They have a plan of what shows they are putting on in the future and therefore audition on that basis - as well as talent of course :) They also tend to take a higher percentage of ds - so sadly not only do you have to be extremely talented you also have to be castable - tough world for all of our dc :( Wishing all who audition anywhere masses of luck xxx

My ds is in the Graduate year at Arts Ed and he swears he can spot an Arts Ed student. However, when I asked him how he just said he didn't know - not very helpful am I!! I do think there must be some method to their madness though. It must be near impossible to select from the talent presented to them without having some sort of system, and not getting a recall is absolutely no reflection on the talent seen at audition.

So a little while yet, but it's nail biting watching the kids on here working so darn hard and going through the process again and again... And the parents going through it too :(
