Urdang auditions

Post by Red shoes »

Hi all I' m new to all this, DD is 17 and just decided last minute that she would like to audition for Urdang. That plan originally was to audition at 18 but she wants to give it a go and that's fine with me. But all the open days are full so I would like to get and idea of the audition process, any info at all would be gratefully received. Also although DD can sing she has not had lessons so I am a bit worried about the singing bit, will she need sheet music? Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

If you type 'Urdang' into the search box on the top RH side of this page it will take you to lots of content on this subject from people who have experienced it and are doing so right now.

Hope this helps

Hi RedShoes

DD's letter says
Jazz - a short class plus an opportunity to show us your strengths in freestyle in any dance subject
Ballet - a short class
Singing please prepare 2 contrasting MT solo songs showing your full vocal range, preferably 1 ballad & 1 up-tempo (sheet music, attached together in a folder)
Acting - please prepare a short monologue of your choice lasting no longer than 2 minutes(a selection is attached but you can use your own)
Physical assessment - is taken by our in-house staff, to ensure you can reasonably be expected to meet the physical demands of the course
Individual interview - conducted by Urdang faculty

At 17 would she be auditioning for the Diploma course, rather than the Degree course ? Good luck to your dd, does she have acting and dancing experience ?

It's difficult to say 'how many' because from what I understand each college has a pot of money. They give the DADA's out to the most talented. They make a list in order of talent. But each student has different financial circumstances which will mean different amounts of DADA. So they will keep going down the list until they run out of money. The DADA scales will be in the link SueSmith has posted. Good luck :)

Has anyone heard from Urdang recently? DD is on the waiting list for the Degree. Just wondered if anyone else had heard anything?

Hi bop2thetop,
My dd''s place at urdang has gone live on ucas now, it took about 3 weeks after she accepted the place direct to them. She now has Bird and Urdang and ucas says she has until 5th June to accept one of them.

DD knows someone who still hasn't had their initial audition so they seem to be dragging the process out :(

Is your DD accepting GSA or would she prefer Urdang?

Hi Carriecrafts,

Im 99% sure she will accept the GSA offer but she did really like Urdang as well. (Both schools are amazing!!!) I think, to be honest she's curious to know if she's got in to the Degree course at Urdang. I can understand that. After the work they put in to it they want to know don't they?. Someone said they think she could withdraw her Urdang application but she said she wants to see if she would have got in first. So if she was to be offered a place i think she will reject it and the offer will be passed to someone else. Unless she has a big change of heart. It gets so complicated doesn't it?

Has your DD made her mind up yet? Is it between Bird, Urdang and Laines? All amazing places!!! \:D/

To think these colleges go through this process every year!!
