Curtis Brown

Post by ammdxx »

I have been looking at writing to agencies recently and Curtis Brown is one of the ones that has come to my attention - firstly because it's impressive, one of the most successful and represents some great actors, and secondly because they recently started representing a girl I know who had no acting experience but is a model and have already been sending her to auditions for tv dramas and films.

I wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with this agency, and if I was to write to them what would the best way be to get their attention! Because I know they must receive hundreds of submissions daily, and it'll be hard to even get them to invite you for a meeting!

Thankyou :)

I know people who are with them.

They are very choosy - and they have their pick of the talent as they are a well-connected and well-respected agency.

Clearly they saw something "marketable" in the person you know. How old is she?

To be honest I'm not sure that there will be very much you can do to get their attention - apart from getting some kind of exposure as a performer. If you are young, then they may invite you in for a meeting if they like your look and you have a few interesting things on your CV - so you lose nothing by writing to them. If you are an adult then I think you probably need to be able to invite them to see you in something (and of course they would only come and see it if they had some interest in you).

Thankyou for the reply!

The girl I know if is 20 but can look as young as 15. I am 16 years old so I guess I have an advantage there! All I can do is hope I guess :)

I agree that they're selective. DS hasn't had an agent till now - he's playing Michael in Billy Elliot at the moment, and was in Matilda before that - but he fancies trying to get some experience of TV or film next, so I contacted a couple of agents, choosing ones that friends are happy with. An agent from CB came to watch DS in Billy before deciding whether to meet us and then emailed to say that as he has a slight lisp and is at the top end of the age range for muscial theatre, he's not right for them now, but he did say lots of very nice things about him and said that DS should get in touch in future if he's looking for representation (and has got rid of the lisp - which is one of his post-Billy plans anyway).

We're in the process of signing with another agent (I won't say who until the paperwork's all sorted), but they also came to watch DS in Billy before inviting us for a meeting.

Talya - I think Z is just perfect. Such an amazing charismatic young man - I would imagine he'll do well with whichever agency takes him on. With his track record I would also think he would be a sure thing for some tv and film work.

Ah,thank you, CatKat_0 :) :) Assuming he does get something, he's interested to find out how he likes it compared to theatre - he's quite fond of all that applause!!

We too would like to join the Z fan club, we think he's fab too. My dd much prefers film (gets embarrassed by the applause - they are all different!)

Ahh, thank you, francescasmum. To be honest, his liking the applause is my take on it rather than anything he'd say. He squirms if he's complimented, but obviously he's used to theatre and it will be interesting to see how filming suits him, if he gets a chance. I imagine he'll have a lot to learn too as the acting style is different.
