Agent specialisms
Hi, I was wondering, do some agents focus more on TV/film/theatre roles rather than commercials or is it all a mix of what comes up? (I believe there are dance and musical theatre specialisms but was thinking more about acting). If they do tend to specialise, how do you know which? Thanks as always for sharing any thoughts/ experiences.

There are some agencies that seem to concentrate on commercials and photo shoots. You can often tell from the "news" part of the website what sort of jobs their clients get.
I suspect that it is more a case that some agents have good contacts with drama CDs and directors and that their suggestions are taken seriously. Again, I think the only way to tell is to see what sort of work the clients seem to be getting - and of course to ask the agent (but do some checking as it has been known for some agents to exaggerate the success of clients and claim that clients have had roles in TV and Film when they have only been background artists).
