Hi,
Is she applying for Diploma or Degree courses?
My daughter was home educated and didn't take any GCSEs...
I emailed all the schools she was interested in and most replied that they didn't have any academic entry requirements it was purely based on audition. So she auditioned at age 16 and was offered places at Urdang, Laine and Performers on the Diploma without any GCSEs. She decided not to go at 16 but instead auditioned again at 18 for degrees. She still hasn't taken GCSE English but has done a Level 2 Functional Skills English qualification alongside her Level 3 BTEC and was offered places on 3 degree courses (Urdang, Bird and Trinity Laban) so they seem to have accepted the Level 2 English in lieu of GCSE. She is starting the degree at Urdang in a couple of weeks.
Things may change now that the compulsory 'school' age has risen and there is a requirement to keep taking English (and Maths I think) until age 18 if they haven't got a C grade. I guess the stage schools will have to offer English/Maths classes to meet this new requirement but I'd be surprised if they make GCSEs a compulsory entry requirement for the Diploma. Degrees usually have English GCSE as an entry requirement because there is an element of academic work. Most of the schools will be happy to tell her if she asks them
Hope this helps x
