Brit School Maths/GCSE/Functional.Skills help

Post by fizzycandy123 »

Hi everyone,I would really appreatie your help,I've always struggled with maths and have been trying so hard especially since September our school has now decided to change exam boards making it even harder for me to get a c. I no if I can re divert my focus to my other subjects I can get Bs and above in those .I gave heard its the law to get a c or you will be forced to resit and I really don't want to do that. I then got told if the college/apprenticeship isn't Government funded its up to them if you gave to.resit or not .So I was thinking of doing an apprenticeship although there arnt many in acting. I then got an.interview for the Brit School does anyone know if they are Government funded, secondly if theyd require me to resit and thirdly i do have a level 1 in functional skills maths would this help my case? Sorry for the long post only been stressed about this for a long time . Thankyou.xx

Hello there.

I'm fairly sure the Brit school is state funded.

I sympathise. It can be so hard if you have a real struggle with a core subject. Can you ask for extra support from your school?

This is clearly causing you a lot of anxiety, but I know that for many people, having the correct, supportive, individually tailored teaching can transform their understanding.

Is there someone at school you can talk to honestly about your concerns?

Please call as speak to someone at Brit or email and ask them if you need maths to study there.
I am sure that there are so many young people out there struggling to get a c in maths. Both of mine struggle with maths and will not get a c without extra tuition, which I can't afford.
I think a lot of places ask if you would be prepared to re sit,my friends daughter was turned down by 2 colleges as she said no,she has re sat it 12 times and still not got a c...if she had said yes she would have finished the course by now, think be prepared to say yes, worry later.
It sounds like you maybe aren't getting much advice and maybe need to study this forum which is invaluable.
Good luck and don't give up on what you want to do.
There are some apprenticeship ' s ,Peer Productions I think is one.

Hi
You need to get at least a C in both Maths and English, otherwise you will need to continue to study them until either you do get a C or equivalent or until you are 18.In my opinion you would be better to really concentrate on doing this the first time round rather than increasing the grades in your other subjects.Once you leave school, whether you get a B or a C in say History for example is really unimportant and will make very little difference to your future. Try to concentrate on the maths, get a revision guide and go through each topic one at a time, making notes and practising questions. Look up anything you do not understand online ( there are some good videos available online to explain things) Ask your teachers for help, but above all be very proactive in your studies.Try not to hate or fear the subject as this will make it more difficult, have a positive attitude and think "I can do this". Tackle one topic at a time in small steps. If you do not know your times tables really really well, learn them as this will make the harder work much much easier! If you are really stuck on anything in particular pm me. Good luck!

I echo Lynne's post.

so PM me if you need any help. It really is better to get it passed first time because it opens up more options and one less thing to worry about, meaning you can concentrate on what you love next year.

Take fråncescasmum's advice. One thing pops out - have you been identified with dyslexia? If so, then the school should be putting things in place to help you get through. She's right about how important maths is - but a C should be available no matter which board the school choose. What have they done that will not let this happen. They are all supposed to be equally hard, so something odd is going on.

You should NOT worry - you may just find that you have missed something crucial. One of my old dance students used to complain that she was rubbish at maths, and then there was one of these education edicts - All Performing Arts had to achieve a pass in a Maths unit. I got the job, and everyone in the group hated the idea, and dug heels in. I discovered that the real problems was not them being 'dim' as many declared. It was simply because they didn't know a few basic things - like not realising that to multiply by ten, just needed a zero on the end. The ones student that sticks in my mind looked at me, and suddenly said - so if I move the decimal point the other way, that's dividing by ten? "That's pretty neat" she said. How she got to 18 without knowing this amazed me.

Get some help, do a little bit out of school, and you should breeze it. A C is not out of reach to anyone (even if dancers can only count up to 8!) Sorry!
