willowolf wrote:Hey Just wanted to share some good news, I note most of the posts in here are for the bigger schools in London, but my daughter has just been awarded a DaDa instead of the initially offered scholarship for SLP College in Leeds. :D

She wants to go to Urdang (that's her first choice) and is on the waiting list, if she accepts the DaDa at Leeds (It was her 2nd choice school) if Urdang were to offer her a DaDa does that mean she couldn't accept it? I am not really sure how this all works? And I need to sort Physiotherapy insurance, any recommendations?

Any advice gratefully received.
Hi willowolf,
Congratulations on the SLP funding. If your dd is offered a DaDA from Urdang then she can accept it :) just accept it and decline the previous SLP one. Some of the funding reserve lists keep moving right up to late August. In reality most people will have already sorted accommodation etc by then so won't take a new offer but I have heard of someone changing schools during the first week of term when they got a DaDA from their top choice.

Hi MoviemiteMum,

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the fund or why it was awarded. It doesn't mention any criteria. The letter just says 'I am pleased to confirm you have been awarded a scholarship from the Widening Participation Fund, in respect of tuition fees up to the value of £7,500 for the academic year 2015/16.' It then goes on to say that this means there will be nothing to pay after the student finance loan of £6000. It can't be means tested as he applied for the degree so they didn't ask any income questions and the letter doesn't suggest that it is dependent on income. It does state that the student must take out all student finance available though. It was a lovely surprise, although he would still choose Urdang as he has the top-up bursary there too and he wasn't keen on the contemporary in the LSC audition. He has therefore turned down the LSC and Bird offers yesterday so those places (and the LSC scholarship) can now go to others who are waiting. He is still hoping for movement on the Laine DaDA reserve and Mountview reserve lists though as these are his favourite places, but he has Urdang as a back up and would be happy there I'm sure. We would just like to know for definite so that we could arrange accommodation etc.

Oh, I've just read the letter more closely and at the bottom it says 'This offer is intended for the full three years of the programme; however is reviewed annually and the scholarship amounts will vary in accordance with the annual tuition fee' so it looks as though it will last the three years.

MoviemiteMum, I don't see that there is any harm in phoning to ask. They will certainly not revoke his offer if you do. The message he sent yesterday turning it down had an automated reply saying they are out of the office until Tuesday so I would leave it until after that.

Willowolf - congratulations on the place for your DD - she must be so excited. We have used AXA PPP and Aviva as insurance companies for our DD over the past 3 years. You will need to make a few phone calls to investigate the best option for your DD as it depends on individual circumstances as well as location of college and physio practices near college for each person too. On the phone people were generally very helpful. DD did need physio while with AXA and it was a quick and straightforward process. Answered in more detail on the physio insurance thread.

Does anyone think we can expect news of reserve places and funding this week? My DD has a firm offer from LSC but is also on reserve list for a Dada from Performers so we can't settle on accommodation yet.

It all seems to take so long doesn't it? However, if you are thinking of the Guy Chester Centre for accommodation for LSC, they will let you hold a place for a couple of weeks. There is a separate thread about it on here too. My DS has a provisional room there for either Urdang or Mountview (awaiting reserve for here) but if he gets a DaDA for Laine (another reserve) then obviously we will have to look elsewhere. It looks great accommodation though and they were very helpful when I spoke to them. They have students from LSC, Mountview and Urdang.

Thanks to you all for your replies, he has decided to take Mountview offer. So glad a decision has at last been made. :)

Are any of you still waiting for funding/reserve list offers also holding a place at Rambert that you would turn down if successful elsewhere? Hoping to hear about movement on their reserve kist, too!

Pearl and Almo

My DS is in his second year at Urdang (Diploma). Term normally starts first week in September with first years joining the earlier part of the week and second and third years towards the end of the week.Hope that helps but I'm sure all of the details including the uniform list will be with you soon.

This year term finishes 11th/12th July - the end of year 1&2 shows. They don't get a long break - not compared to his Uni friends.

If you're interested or for those thinking about applying in 2016, the year 1 and 2 shows are at The Hackney Empire this year. Certainly helped DS make his decisions when he was applying - he went to a few end of year shows.

The term dates are on Urdang's website but only for this academic year ](*,) DD started the degree last year on 2nd September; a much earlier start than her sisters at uni or any of her friends at other MT schools. Hope this helps.
