What to do at 18 - places but reserve lists

Post by JayLou62 »

Hi,

So dd2 auditioned for 6 colleges and got Diploma places at 5 and Foundation offer at Urdang.
She is on Reserve lists for Performers (no 20) and Bodyworks (Reserve Pool as they don't have a list per se). Laine is currently her favourite (place but no funding) and we can't afford to send her without a DaDA :(
So what to do now? Dd is currently part time at a dance college but doesn't want to stay next year. She is also on a Pre-voc and could stay full time next year (she is currently part time) but is concerned that the level of dance won't be high enough (they are more acting/singing).
1 dance teacher has suggested Liberatus. A friend of dd's suggested Wilkes. Wilkes phoned me within half an hour of receiving my email and also emailed me later that night to say how much they are looking forward to meeting dd which sounds positive but am not sure if we can afford the fees and maybe accommodation costs although it might be possible for her to commute (we're 45 mins from Swindon).
Another friend suggested Bodyworks Foundation but accommodation costs are pricey or Laine Foundation and or Summer School as she thinks it might help dd next year but then there's the cost of auditioning again next year but dd doesn't want to be in the same boat of places everywhere but no funding :(

Just don't know which way to turn :(

I really feel for your DD and yourself and I am not sure I can really offer any advice. A friends DD is in a similar situation - an offer with partial funding (but not enough to be affordable), a reserve list place and foundation at Urdang.

However, I would emphasize to you that there is still plenty of time for movement on the reserve lists so do not give up hope just yet. A few years ago for my DD but she did not get her funding until the day before she broke up for May half term and that from a college that gave out DADA offers early March that year. There will still be people sitting on offers that have not made a final decision.

DS's friend was offered funding from the Bird reserve list at the end of August last year so definitely don't give up hope. Good luck to your DD

My DD did the Foundation / BTEC at Bodyworks and is just coming to the end of her foundation year there.
She has auditioned and been offered places with funding but has chosen to stay at Bodyworks with full Dada.

I would think if you did a foundation course it is highly unlikely that you be offered a diploma place without funding - most of her foundation year have been offered places somewhere with funding offers.

Hi, Does anyone know how long the reserve DaDa list is at Performers College. My daughter was offered the three year diploma but without any funding it's sadly impossible we are able to fund her on the pre voc ( lots of extra shifts at work) whilst remaining on the reserve list for a DaDa and praying that we win the lottery or a DaDa before September so that she can take up the three year offer. I can think of little else but wondered if anyone had any experience of this and whether I am waiting/hoping/praying in vain ? ](*,)

Performers told me that dd was in the top quarter of the reserve list of 80. When pressed, they said she was no.20.
She won't stay on the reserve list now as she will go to Bird :)

Dd has moved from no6 to no1 on reserve list since she received her letter in may for laines ( I wonder how it works as dd was offered dada elsewhere and there was deadline for acceptance . Iv read on some threads that reserve list doesn't move that far sometimes but will just have to wait and see

I really can't figure out how it works either. It seems that you can accept a dada and stay on a reserve list elsewhere. When we spoke to Sarah Carroll she mentioned something about all paperwork going off to a central processing dept at the end of each month to prevent people holding on to several dadas. It's all very confusing. We have accepted the Bird dada but still waiting on Laine. Went and looked around Bird this week-really impressed with it

You can still swap if you have accepted one DADA offer and then receive another from a college you prefer. As another poster said, all the colleges have to report to a central body to say who they have made their offers to and this central body keeps an eye out for people holding onto more than one DADA and as time passes will start contacting people to ask them to make their minds up. I posted on another thread about a girl I know of a few years ago, she may be an extreme example and not the norm, but she held onto 6 DADA offers until about the end of June until she finally got offered a DADA off the reserve list from her preferred college. It did not seem to even occur to the family that had she just held onto 1 or maybe 2 of the offers she had, lists might have moved a little earlier but she really was undecided about where she preferred. But every DADA that is declined or returned to the pot as it were sets off a chain reaction. It may be short - offered to the first person on the reserve list and this person does not have any other offers - or longer - as this person accepts and then declines an offer they were holding elsewhere.
