I've had a look at this and it sounds really good but it's £60. Has anyone done it before? I would love to hear some feedback. xxx

An alternative to an open day or pre audition day at a particular school could be the CDET dance and musical theatre conference. A lot of schools attend and prospective students do a number of classes led by teachers from the schools, get plenty of opportunities to talk and aske questions of teachers and students of schools taking part and the day ends with a showcase with each school performing. Its not looking at buildings and facilities of schools, like in an open day but it is the chance to ask questions and get answers as to what each school offers. My DD has only taken part as an existing student, not a prospective one. Previous conferences have been held at Elmhurst and Hammond. The next one is at Urdang.

Go along and see one the shows that the school's put on. A great way to gauge the quality of the school.

My DD was advised by her local dance teacher and her college teacher to wait until xmas to apply for her auditions. If you apply straight after the summer you have probably had 2 months off from any dancing/training and not in as peak a condition as if you audition around Feb time. Also, as someone else has already mentioned, you will benefit from an additional 4/5 months training by auditioning in the spring.

Hope this helps

If you apply early and try for auditions before Christmas you will have had several months of dance, even if you did have a long summer break. My DDs audition dates fell between mid November and late February. She had a longer break from dancing over Christmas than she had had in the summer due to the weather and I will never forget the horrific journey to one audition - in heavy snow for most of the way. I know by the spring you have had additional training but personally I would stagger auditions as much as possible - to allow for adverse weather conditions and for illness. One girl we know came down with chickenpox just before her December audition but was still able to audition for that particular school as they still had more auditions to go. Another advantage to spreading auditions a little is impact on academic school - particularly as it gets closer to Easter as for GCSE students that is often the worst time - end of that term with deadlines for art, technology subjects, oral exams for languages, drama practicals etc

I think the closing date for applications for a DADA is 17th February but I am not too sure if you just apply once and it counts for different schools or you need to apply for each school you apply for. Do you need to do auditions first before applying for a DADA? I have looked at the website and I am still not sure of the process exactly.
