I know, it comes around so quickly, doesn't it? When is your DD at Bird? We sent off the application yesterday. DD is going for the diploma. We originally ruled it out just because of location, but when I had a closer look, it seems like it has good transport links in and out of London. Nice to have someone else on this bumpy ride, so welcome!!

She is at Bird 17th Nov, she is going to try to do degree as she has a fall back plan of MT and education if things dont work out, so would enable her to do her PGCE teaching top up in the future, we have had to say no to diploma also because if she got a DADA for fees we cant get any support with living costs, so just not a viable option for us. Its going to be a rocky road I think.

Dd also auditioning this year for diploma courses. Considering bodyworks but can't find much info on their audition day - has anyone been/know what day consists of?
She's also applying to urdang, performers and SLP - so any info (that's not already been posted) would be appreciated X

Bodyworks have an open day on Thursday 20th October.
The audition day as far as we can remember was an all day thing..singing, jazz, acting, possibly ballet. And an interview and fitness assessment.

My DD is in third year at performers. Audition consisted of, group ballet, group jazz, singing & monologue.
Followed by interview and physio assessment.

She has really enjoyed her time there. The days are long but they seem to be everywhere. They are very strict about dress, timekeeping & attendance.
My DD is on the MT strand - would suggest that it is still a dance college & needs to increase its contact hours for MT - acting through song, acting & MT opportunities etc, but that would mean reducing dance hours for MT students. Probably a fine balance.
The college does seem like a big family & the students across all the years and pre voc seem to support each other well.
Corringham is not my favourite place - it has an underbelly I really don't like.Accommodation is sketchy and some of the houses are not great. It is a very quick commute to London and surrounding areas. & does have nightlife in nearby Basildon and the Towie Suger Hut.

The teaching and opportunities the students get are second to none, my DD has grown so much since she has been there. I wouldn't hesitate to send her there again.
Hope useful

No reason that I can find in the public domain. Second is hearsay so may not be true. DD has been told that GSA have drastically cut the number of contact hours for MT compared to prior years. If true one might conclude that the two developments are related. Trouble in paradise?
Its true Michael Moor is no longer head of MT at GSA but he is still working there so it could be his decision? Also noticed hes working for an Agency as well so maybe thats why. Who knows? Also my DD is doing MT at GSA and says nobodys contact hours have reduced. They're all still working long hard but happy days :D
Thanks for clarifying and that's good to hear :D.

Good luck to everyone as things start to happen. Stick with it and remember that not many succeed in getting in first time! And just keep picking them up if they get No's. Our DD had four auditions prior to last Christmas, got four big No's and didn't even make the cut from the first session in two of them! It was a long and tough Christmas break! Then she did two more auditions in January and got an offer and a reserve list. You need to help them to keep the faith, to keep believing.

What are everyone's views on auditioning for dance based musical theatre courses at 16 compared to 18? What are the pros and cons?

Hi Stella
It really depends upon which aspect of it you want to know about. My dd has just left at 16 to follow her dreams. If you want answers to anything specific please pm me and I will do my best to help you

Dds first audition is urdang on 6th Nov & it's starting to feel very real & scary (& that's just me!). Couple of q's - what do most people wear for singing/monologue's? No solo dance but states there's chance to show what hey can do in jazz class - how does this work? Do they have intro/chat for parents or will I be dropping off & spending day in cafes?

Question for those applying to Urdang - can you apply to be considered for both degree and diploma or do you have to chose one or the other? Am confused as there is an application form for diploma and it says to go through UCAS for degree.
