Interesting kzgirl. I do recall them announcing the BA and I'm sure they said student loans would be available although not in the first year. There is no point in a drama college having a BA other than to access student loans. In my view that is the only reason they have them in my cynical view.

You can get a student loan that pays £6000 towards the fees (due to increase to £6250 next year I believe) plus the maintenance loan with the London weighting for both Arts Ed and Mountview, but you have to fund the difference in tuition costs. My DS is in his second year at Mountview and absolutely loving it. For Mountview all the recalls are done over that one weekend in April after lots of initial audition dates. Two years ago they recalled about 150 in total, cut in in half after the first day and those left for day 2 were guaranteed either a place or a reserve list place. I know they take 36 for musical theatre and want an even split of boys and girls. Hope that helps.

Just looked back to an old thread where PPA BA was discussed and an email from them was quoted. The cost was £10,300 in Sept 16 and was "heavily subsidised" due to the lack of student finance and pending trying to make it eligible for PCDL. Given it is £10,500 for Sept 17 I assume that there is still no funding in place? I didn't think degrees were eligible for PCDLs in any case.

They are asked to prepare a dance but often they don't need it. They hear within about 2 weeks of outcome and that is the worst bit. Why is the student loan 3K less for these colleges, I thought if you applied through UCAS then student finance was the same for all. I know the courses can cost more than the student finance of £9000. This is very confusing.

ArtsEd is not through UCAS you apply direct to college. It is private. You can access a student loan but only for part of the actual cost which is higher than other colleges. You can possibly get Dada funding for a diploma if you are offered it. You would have to find the difference for the degree - I think this is £8000 if I recall correctly. It is important to look carefully at fees and funding when applying.

Hi kzgirl. The student loan is capped at £6,000 for colleges deemed private even if they offer a BA. So ArteEd and Mountview are capped. Can't remember for Urdang. Where you actually do the BA at a University, rather than at a college where the degree is accredited by a Uni, you can get the full £9,000. Think that's roughly how it works.

Urdang is higher fees than £9000 I think it's £12000 off top of my head (on train after urdang audition and too tired to remember!) Good news is it was a great day at audition and worth the audition fee. DD loved it there.

Robin64 is correct. Even where you can get the full £9,000 fee loan the actual fees may be higher and often are. GSA is a notable exception. The fees are are £9,000. You need to check very carefully. I do find that very few colleges spell it out. It wold not be difficult to put a paragraph saying "degree fees cost x, maximum student loan y, you will have to fund z". And something similar for living costs.

I don't know why but they are all different! Last year Bird's degree course wad £9000 and you could get all of that through student finance but LSC was £13,000 and could only get £6000 via student finance! I think urdang was £12,500 with £9000 available via student finance! Maintenance loan is means tested but with london weighting for LSC & urdang!

The official line is that 'private institutions' can only have £6,000 borrowed towards the fees. However I don't fully understand what makes Arts Ed or Mountview a private institution while Bird and Urdang are not... All the degrees are validated by established universities but the colleges are separate and manage themselves. Anyway, I haven't looked for a couple of years, since dd started her degree, but I think:

Urdang (but they charge £12,000+. Lots of £3,000+ bursaries to cover the difference based on audition tho)

I think RCS is also student loan so £9000 unless you live in Scotland in which case it's £1820!!!!

If you are a EU resident (not UK), it's also £1800.
