We couldn't afford foundation but I think in your situation living so close I would go for it for a place at her favourite college. Bird is very strong and I think after a year there she will smash all her auditions next time or get to prove herself to stay on for the degree or diploma. Sorry quote in wrong place. On train back from Bird as it happens!!
Nice to chat to you today 2girlsmum :-)
Munchpot wrote:Thanks for all your comments. I understand what some say about foundation courses, but as we live a short walk away from Bird th cost of the course would equate to living costs and, even if she got a DaDa, the contribution we would be making annually for the diploma at Performers would not be much different
Ive also heard of quite a few people who have done reputable foundation courses and had much better offers for Diplomas with funding or Degree courses the following year
My DD had such a good feeling about Bird that, at the moment, that's where she really wants to study a degree course, so this may help her achieve her dream
Again we are very lucky to live literally around the corner from the college

Thanks for your reply. Hope the audition went well. Good luck
Thanks Robin64 yes it was a very nice surprise to meet someone yesterday and lovely to chat and hear about how yr DD is getting on. I hope she had a good day, let's hope the postman brings them good news.
It's not what's stated on their website today, Steffysmum, unless there is something else I missed...
Scottish students get the £1800 paid for them through SAAS. hence why they let very few Scottish students in as they can make more from other places . We still get Further Education free in Scotland. we only get loans for living cost etc.

Thank you for clearing things up for me Steffysmum...
DD now on the reserve list for degree course at Bird.
Does anyone know what the chances are of actually getting a place?
We don't find out until probably the beginning of July so I'm a little worried about getting accommodation etc sorted if she gets a place - although it would be a lovely problem to have!
She's still got an audition at Laine to go and has the Foundation Offer at Urdang if all else fails so I guess we may be less stressed than some others at the moment.

My DD also got a place off the reserve list at Bird and is in her final year. We know if someone who got a place off the reserve list last year too. Never give up hope!
DD finished her auditions last month and has now had all her offers, she has chosen to attend Chichester University on the triple threat musical theatre course (unconditional offer). Waiting for student finance to open so she can apply and we have just found her a brand new studio apartment to rent 5 minutes walk from the campus. Initially DD was going into halls but after finding these apartments she has decided not to. The course at Chichester for the triple threat will suit DD and hopefully she will come out with a good degree. DD decided this year to apply early and had most of her auditions before Christmas, we feel this was a wise decision as when she applied 2 years ago it was rather late and places had been filled by previous auditions. I am so glad DD is now sorted and the funding will be available for her to go. Finances were a big issue as to where DD applied but it all worked out in the end. Good luck to all your sons and daughters, if anyone else is starting at Chichester in September 2017 you are very welcome to contact me and maybe our siblings can get to know each other before starting via face book or something.
DD has a friend who got her degree place last year after being on the reserve list, although she didn't get the place until mid August, but she is loving her 1st year

Congratulations and well done to your DD on her offers and it must be nice to have made the final choice so you know exactly where she is going and what the next steps are.
DD has now done 4 of her 7 auditions, she has 1 offer and is still waiting to hear from the other 3, 2 more auditions next week and 1 in mid March.

I think RCS is also student loan so £9000 unless you live in Scotland in which case it's £1820!!!!
My daughter is on her first year at Royal Scottish Conservatoire on the BA MT, last year she was offered Mountview , Trinity and Barcelona (IAB). I believe all her fees are paid , in Scotland the government ensures that fees are paid for all our young people attending university / college . Please contact me if you want any information re the audition process her in Scotland and down south . These private colleges are run as a business and more and more young people are being excluded from further training as the costs are far too expensive for many parents . There will also be massive debts at the end of the training with no guarantee of work , but we all know that is "showbusiness" . Tom Watson the MP is leading an enquiry into equality in the arts , here's the link : http://www.tom-watson.com/actingup
As a school teacher I am very passionate about this as talent should always be the factor and not on ability to pay . Good luck everyone , there are also some charities / trust finds that can help the very talented , you just have to search for them online.

My daughter is at RCS on BA MT ( after four years of funding at the Dance School of Scotland at Knightswood , Scotland 's national centre for excellence in dance and musical theatre ) and we are very blessed to have her training paid , but I am a campaigner for equality in education , especially in the arts and recently read about an MP called Tom Watson in London, who is leading an enquiry into this , might be worth contributing to this
PS SteffysMum are you Dance School Scotland Mum ? x
