Re GSA BA MT, dd has 2 friends (both boys) who have been offered / accepted places in the last 2 years from BTec courses. Plus one who did A levels and definitely didn't get the grades but was accepted.So A level isn't the only option. All were really talented.
Dd has a recall on Saturday, she is applying post A level and has ABB, that was the requirement last year, this year it states AAB, I would be amazed and disappointed if she was rejected on the basis of her A level grades, but have to accept rejection on any other standard is just par for the course.
I'm pretty sure if she was applying for Biological Sciences and dropped a grade on her offer she'd be in. Sometimes I wish she was!!

Hi there. I am completely new to this site but have read the posts on this thread with great interest. My dd is auditioning for the second time around this year. Last year she received a recall at GSA, a place on the 3 year diploma at Urdang ( unfunded) and a place on the Foundation at Bird. She took up the Bird place and is absolutely loving it there.
So now she is doing the rounds again. So far she has done Arts Ed (no) Urdang ( recall for Degree- waiting to hear) PPA ( waiting to hear ) and GSA where she got a recall again - her recall is tomorrow too so will see your daughter there! She also got ABB at A Level so we are also worried about the change to their entry requirements.

She also has Mountview in April and Bird in May where she will be auditioning for a place in their degree course. I absolutely agree with you all that it is such a long hard and at times brutal journey for them ( and us parents!). This is forum is fantastic as you can see others are going through the same process . Hang in there everyone !!

Good luck to your dd tomorrow, I hope she enjoys the day. Let us know how it goes. Dd is currently doing the Foundation at ArtsEd. She has an offer for the BA at LCM, tomorrow's recall at GSA, April auditions for Central and Mountview. The foundies at ArtsEd audition over 4 weeks during normal class time, she has done her singing and acting auditions so far. She also has a second 1st audition (!!!) at LAMDA for straight acting.

Bird College audition their foundies last , but just over one day when all other 'outside' auditions are done. So at least we can hold out some hope until May. I must admit I do wonder if the audition is a bit superfluous - I'm sure they already know if they are going to offer them a place. All great experience though. Fingers crossed and keep us posted.

I understand about the superfluous audition thing Stageyails, I wondered about it. Dd says at Arts they are auditioned by people who have never taught them on the Foundation, so there is an element of being judged on that day's performance. I'm sure the teachers talk though, and effectively they've been auditioning all year!

Not necessarily. My friend's DD did Biomedical science, and her offer was ABB, she got AAC and not even the 2nd A got her in. She ended up having to do an extra year in sixth form and re-took the Chemistry exam she'd got the C in. This was the last year when tuition fees were £3K so there was an oversubscription of people applying - just like there is for Performing arts courses each year. Not that this helps you at all, just thought it might help cope with the feelings of 'if only she wanted to do something else.......'

To those of you who do have children on a foundation course. How have you funded it? It's something I've read about since I joined/lurked here and was always put off the idea because of the (no) funding issue. But I can see what the last few pages have said, it better prepares you for trying in a another year. If we lived in the South it would be less of a problem because it would be likely we could afford commuting costs plus the price of the course. It's the accommodation and living costs we'd struggle with. It's a few years away yet DD is not quite 14 and would be highly likely looking at a straight acting course rather than MT. Just interested in knowing what others have done.

Dad's grandparents put all their loose change into a pot this plus £10 a month since she was born plus all of her christening money & half of every birthday & Christmas money (that DH & I had saved for her) equalled about £500 more than the Foundation year

The money had been originally saved "for uni" but was so small with fees it was irrelevant

DS got lots of offers the first year but not "the one" he had set his heart on. A year on a foundation was amazing and he learnt so much and it opened the door he wanted. He managed to claim housing benefit when he did it as the course wasn't deemed as higher education. It was a battle but he got it. It was a real godsend.

My DS would love that Oscar. If we could afford it it would be a great option. I think it really sets them up well. But alas we don't have the funds. Hopefully we'll find another way of him getting the training

Well there were 26 at the GSA recall today, 4 kept back for interview (2 girls, 2 boys), sadly dd wasn't one of them. I've spoken to her, she is fine and feels she did her best. Onwards and upwards!

Hi soda. Yes- dd was very lucky - this time she got through to the interview stage ( it was 1 boy and 3 girls). My dd said the standard she saw today was stunning - we don't know how they can possible choose who goes through- there is soooo much talent it's frightening. Now we have to play the waiting game. There is still no guarantee of an offer . Wishing your dd all the very best for her remaining auditions. There is a place somewhere for them all

My daughter knows someone on the Foundation course who was there today, and was offered a place there and then.
Interestingly, she does not meet the grade requirements, bit I suppose they ignored that because she was on the Foundation.
Good for her. She is a talented girl, and it shows that you can get on to the BA course from the Foundation course

Was anything mentioned about grades today? Just wondering because of previous posts we've had about it.
And well done to both your DC's on getting a Recall. I think it's about 2000 that apply for that course and only a few get recalled. So I think that proves the standard your DC's are at is very high
Last week someone I know was offered a place on the day. But when my DD got her offer it was on Ucas so it's probably quite rare they do that.
