Auditioning for 2017

Hi everyone, I'm quite new but have been following posts for the last month, my dd, is hoping to get somewhere for September 2017, she has so far had a no from gsa, ... she's a strong singer , but predicted grades are a, b, c ... but completion there is tough & she didn't make it to recall
She has an offer from Chichester on their triple threat course , and we were hoping they would count her countless dance exams that have ucas points, but unfortunately not , so fingers crossed ... not sure how flexible they are with grades ??
And then there Is bird college , she loved it there ... would love the BA or diploma , her dance friend auditioned the week before & has been offered a foundation course , she is a good dancer , but can't sing... so my dd is now stressing that she won't be offered anything , which if she isn't will seriously dent her confidence, given the fact that she can sing ...
so if she is offered a foundation, what funding is there for accommodation??
And should she take a foundation over a ba ?? But at a uni ?? Decisions, decisions

Hi Barrysue. Don't know if I've missed something but 120 UCAS points (mentioned by someone else) is 3 Ds at A level. And that ties in with Chichester Uni website which I think I recall saying 3 Ds required for MT. You say your DD's predicted grades are ABC (I'm assuming at A level) which I think = 300 UCAS points so well above the minlmum.

The Tarriff table has changed for 2017. A/B/C would be 120 points on the new system. It's something like 48 points for A, 40 for B and 32 for C

Yes munchpot, you are correct...the UCAS points system has changed to what you have quoted

With regards to UCAs points if a uni does accept dance/music exams towards the points they will only accept subjects that are not too similar in content.

Somewhere there is table of qualifications that contain content too similar to count (I cannot remember the name of it). it also stops people offering A levels that are too similar to each other for example A level

So for example way back in the past there were certain music colleges that would accept Grade 8 Practical and Theory of music in lieu of Music A level but it would not count both.

So for example perhaps a child goes to a school that does not offer A level dance. A course may accept the UCAS points from an RAD Intermediate exam or Grade 8 ballet (but not both) in lieu of A level dance. The same with music.

They will only generally count the highest Grade taken so if you have done Grades 6, 7, & 8 you don't add them all up but just count the UCAS points from Grade 8.

Hi Barrysue I would suggest a foundation course rather than a BA at Uni, but that is my opinion. I know many, including my dd who have done a year foundation and then been offered a place at one of their top choice schools, and it gives them excellent preparation for the next 3 years. There is no funding for fees or accommodation though (with a few exceptions). Does it have to be in London though. I can recommend an excellent 1 year course in Nottingham run by Funky Studios. Fees are half those in London and students are getting places at Urdang, GSA, Arts Ed, Lipa, BSA, Central, Bird etc and some with over 3 offers. My dd trained there and they have an amazing faculty. She is at Urdang now. Good Luck !!! its a tough process.

I think if basing it on the end result in terms of success rate, I would too opt for foundation at too drama school over uni route. Of course depends on finances too

I agree with you. It's hard to make a decision if finances are stretched. If you spend £9,000 on a Foundation plus living costs (probably the same again!) that's £18,000 you don't have if, when a place is offered, it's not funded at all or enough to allow you to accept it. That said you're chances of getting an offer are significantly increased if you to a Foundation course there is no doubt about that.

Hi Soda, dd just heard she got an unconditional offer from GSA.This was her second year of trying- it seems they like them to have completed some sort of Foundation first, but I may be wrong. I guess it depends on individual.

We have performers on Monday & dd has now decided to apply to Millenium too

That's wonderful news Stageyails, has she decided if she's going to accept it? Dd is doing the ArtsEd foundation, she'd really like to stay there but we won't know if she has an offer for a few weeks yet.
