Mumofthreegirls DS was on Bird reserve list last year and his offer came through in June. We managed to find him a lovely host family a short walk from the college. As he was only 16 we were keen that he was still looked after! Really feel for you all waiting for offers and reserve lists to move

We have just had the uniform list through from Millennium, what a lot of stuff!! Is dance direct the best place to start and are there any dancewear shops in or around London that anyone would recommend? It suddenly seems very real!! I don't know who is more excited, me or her!!

Hi jennifer1972. The Bloch Store and Capezio in London both offer discounts to students in full time Performing Arts colleges. To register you just take your dd's enrollment letter and they will set her up on their system. I think it's around 10% so very worth while. Wishing your dd all the best at this exciting time for her. Xxxx

It's lovely to hear of the offers so far, well done to everyone. i would like to list you all but there's so many and its quite hard to see all the posts on my phone! It's so exciting for them planing for this next step andI wish them all the best. Fingers crossed for all those on waiting lists, I'm sure everything will work out and they will end up at the place that's best for them, even if it wasn't their top choice to start with. My dd has had some offers and some funding offers but shes waiting to hear for a couple, and still has 2 auditions to go so we hoping for some good news soon as well. Xxx

Thank you good to hear that it's a possibility ..... We have to decide and move on with plan A though just in case , Just a shame as I know she won't be 100% happy at UNI .

It's worth checking if Millennium have any arrangements with local stores. I know, for example, Bird students get a 10% discount at Stage Door in Sidcup. Millennium might have. Local deal with a Woolwich / Local / shop

DS is really enjoying it-He had a difficult choice between Bird and Laine. Bird was the right choice for him I think, but saying that it is a very individual thing and what suits one child doesn't necessarily suit another

Hi mumof3girls. A few thoughts spring to mind about your dilemma. The main one is that you don't say what DD's desired outcome is (unless I missed it in the thread somewhere). If it's to get regular paid work performing in musicals then you need to think carefully about going anywhere which does not help you find agent representation. I know nothing of Holloway but you need to be clear on the number of contact hours and content of the course. It's not one that I've seen mentioned or discussed much on the forum. Also it's odd that they don't audition as that's probably the best way to really find out what the course will be like. Do you know why DD's dance teacher likes it so much?

Re Bird I'm assuming DD is on the waiting list for the BA and not the diploma? Would agree that Bird reserve list moves a lot, partially due to the very large intake, which means a lot of offers are made but not accepted. DD's dance teacher told her that two years ago when her niece started there there were people on he reserve list who started after the start of term. So there is hope.

I appreciate that funding is a major consideration but be wary of how much you compromise on going anywhere rather than nowhere. DD has two friends who did that and have abandoned their course at Uni after one year having auditioned and got in to one of the London MT colleges. Sadly they are stuck with student loans of £9k plus living costs.

This can also work the other way though, my DD started at a performing arts college which she left after one term, the place wasn't right for her and she sustained an injury, we are still paying off the 8 weeks she was there. So many of DD friends have found that that the colleges are not as they were made out to be when started and they have come home. It is a lottery really for colleges and for Uni,. Personally I feel and this is just my opinion that Uni is a great option especially after the experience our DD has had. Contact hours are important but so is the quality of the the contact hours. One thing to bear in mind with the colleges is the fact that they use teachers in between work on the west end so there is not always continuity and each teacher will have a different view on how to do things this can confuse students and in my opinion can also affect the end grade. These are all things to consider. At Uni students are expected to put the time in on their own or in a group as well, I feel this helps at the end when looking for work. We will be extremely happy if DD comes out with a first class honours like DS did (different course though) DS has not been out of work since graduating. DD is going with the aim of trying to achieve a 1st.

Does anyone know if Bodyworks offer scholarships please? We are just over the limit for a DADA and need some support as to pay all fees and living accommodation would be too much? Thanks in advance. D
