I bet your DS’s friend was thrilled to get that phone call. I like the idea of phone calls for offers/scholarships, it makes it very personal. Well that means then that things are moving with the first batch of auditions. We should all hear something soon then.

However - we've had fantastic and unexpected news today following DD's Zoom recall for Arts Ed on Tuesday. She's had an email offering her a place on their BA Hons Degree/Diploma along with information about DADA funding/scholarship! She just can't believe it. We thought there would be a further round Absolutely over the moon tonight.
Honestly thought Arts Ed was a pipe dream Just shows you might as well have a go as you never know! :)
Huge congratulations to your DD. That's amazing news for her and such a relief for you too!!! I agree... If you don't try you don't get, and the worst that happens is they say no, but that applies to everything in life.

For Laine DS was interviewed by Anthony somebody who is part of the Jazz department. Interesting that your DDs were interviewed by women and DS was interviewed by a man. I wonder if that's deliberate? One of DS's friends was phoned by Laine yesterday and offered a scholarship. The friend was on the same audition as DS so over 2 weeks ago. I guess it's taking them a while to get through everything.
I also wonder if the interviewers were allocated to suit the qualifications they listed? Maybe not..probably just random but it is interesting....That's interesting too re the scholarship too as it shows that Betty has got to that stage of watching? I could be reading far too much into this

I have heard rumours of Wilkes? have already offered too many places has anyone else heard that? Has this year been a bumper application year because of online? I imagine some that wouldn't usually be able to travel to so many auditions have been able to submit more.

Haha, I had a post I think last week of my daughter and I feeling the exact same way with watching the offers on Insta being posted. It makes you feel quite panicked and stressed doesn’t it especially if you’ve had no replies.

Yes especially as we held off sending applications hoping for in person then realised they were staying online so sent some later than others. In fact we still have a later date in March for another but may not send that one now. ....it is a worry having later dates but we were told don't send too early either! As before Xmas you're still preparing. It has been another level of stress.

Hi everyone.

Congratulations on all the recent offers.

My daughter is very happy to have a degree offer from bird and is probably going to accept it as it was one of her preferred choices.

She is withdrawing from most of her other applications either because she prefers bird or for financial reasons (we have always told her a diploma even with funding would be difficult for us to afford).

She’s decided to keep her performers application open to wait for her audition result. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on performers? She really likes the sound of it but we don’t really know much about it.

Also does anyone know if you get the additional London student finance for bird or performers?

Hi Well done to your daughter!
My daughter does Performers Elite (associates prog) and now has a degree offer from them, but she is undecided if she would like to go there due to it's recent increase in size....(saying that though I have reminded her that they are now prob no different to Bird or Urdang). So apart from that we have no words of wisdom as we don't know where we are heading  I just think it's location is fairly remote and we are trying to find out what accommodation options there would be.

That is wonderful news. DS went there and had the best time. He worked so hard but that’s what he loved

Bird is in London, borough of Bexley so you get London rates for finance! Far enough out to be cheaper accommodation, but close enough to nip in to the city! My DD is 2nd year diploma student who was on the degree waiting list from when she auditioned in the March. They told her she was higher up on the diploma with funding list so opted to go on both lists. She was lucky enough to get a DaDA ☺️ But we didn’t find out she’d got a place till mid July! Performers is not classed as London

Hi thank you for the information.

Is your daughter happy at bird? Mine really liked the online audition workshops and she said it seemed friendly. But she’s never actually been there in person.

She’s very happy 😊 it’s been a tough year with covid but Bird have managed it really well. It wasn’t top of her list when we did open days (it’s was definitely mine, it’s a lovely place) but it was definitely her favourite audition & it became her top choice. Pastoral care is brilliant, they have physio on site for all to access. She stayed in halls at Avery Hill for her first year where she made some great friends, they now share a house over the road from college. I’m very happy she’s there & she’s loving being back face2face.

Yes I’m sure it’s been a tough year. Hopefully this year will be much better in terms of covid. I’m glad to hear she’s happy there x

We were fortunate that DS auditioned 2 years ago when he was 16 so we've been to Bird and Performers. I loved Performers for the facilities as it's purpose built and also Tracy, the Principal was great. They put on performances for their open days which were of a really high quality and we talked to the students who were really happy there.

DS had selected Bird of the two and I went to look round Bird on my own as his Dad took him for the auditions. Really friendly, again good facilities and they've had an extension built since I went. It's a stone's throw from the town centre as well so fab for the students. I liked Bird too.

I would suggest you drive to both and look at where they are and get a feel for the location, even if you can't actually go inside as that will help.

Can't speak for Performers but there are some Bird chat groups, Snapchat is a bit one apparently called Degree Birdies so your DC might like to try that. DS has decided on Bird and I think the chats might well have played a large part in that decision as he already has friends in the new intake, and they have "social evenings" with quizzes and stuff over Zoom.

Thank you for the good wishes everyone. Arts Ed deposit now paid (fully refundable if she has to withdraw) and DADA declaration completed. Now a different kind of waiting...can we afford it?! DD is withdrawing her final application (Performers) but needs to keep hold of at least one other offer until we know about finances. I now understand why people keep hold of offers whilst others are waiting. It doesn't seem fair but the jigsaw isn't completed until the summer.
Happy Mother's Day everyone. We certainly all need a rest today! :)
