Bird is definitely inside London - it's under the London Borough of Bexley

Thanks Munchpot and everybody else who responded. Another £3000(ish) for London weighting is very helpful. I thought it was but as Bexley is technically Kent I wasn't sure.

I think they use the M25 as a guide, inside the M25 gets London rates, outside doesn’t x

Hi everyone :D
My dd starts on the degree at Wilkes this year, does anyone have any advice or info they could offer on the accommodation situtation. There seems to be a company offering student halls at ridiculous prices.

Nope, not a word from Laine since the last email a few weeks ago.

My dd is in 1st year at Wilkes and has her accommodation through this agency, they are rising prices from this Sept but to be fair, they were cheap this year compared to a lot of other rentals and areas. How much are you being quoted?

I know this has been gone into great detail in the past, but any gems about the Bird reserve list? My daughter is on it and would like to go (has offers elsewhere but would prefer Bird). I know they said end of June. How realistic is it that there will be any movement in the list? Is it worth holding out hope? Thanks in advance!

DS was on the Bird reserve list for the diploma 2 years ago and was moved up to an offer in mid May. There will be movement from now until September and possibly some when Laine bothers to tell people about DaDA offers. Expect some more movement on 10th August as well if people don't get the grades - although I'm guessing that will be less this year. The list moves all the time. You could ask them where your DD is on the list and they'll give you a rough idea of top half, bottom half or middle.

There will probably be some changes after the ucas deadline in a few weeks and then possibly again after A level results day.
Whether it’s worth holding out hope maybe depends on how much she wants to go there. Would she prefer to commit to her 2nd choice and start sorting her accommodation, uniform etc?

Good luck! I hope it all works out for your daughter.
(I have heard in previous years they will give a rough idea where you are on the list but I don’t know if they are doing it this year. It’s might be worth a try).

Hi, they are putting the prices upto £650 per month for student halls. It would be better for my dd to do a house share but thats always difficult in first year when they don't know each other.

Really? We were told her rent was going up to £500 from September (from £440), she’s actually moving to a different landlord in September (with the help of the agency) but that is also £500. No clue why you’ve been told £650, that is a ridiculously huge jump as I’m sure they were paying the same as my dd this year. We did ask why there was such a big jump in Sept and their reply was that their accountant had told them they were massively undercharging so my only thought is they’re charging new ones more as they come in. I would ask Wilkes if they can set up a group chat and see if she can find someone to share with. Sorry I can’t help more, only thing I can also suggest is that my dd said some of her friends were looking at some flats that have just been built near college (Halls is not walkable) but I don’t know what they’re called or where they are, just that they were within walking distance so definitely do your own homework too, £650 is very high for out of London!

My daughter was on the reserve list 2 years ago for degree at first, then was told she was higher on the diploma list. We were losing hope when the end of June came and went, was just about to give up her place and we’re told to hold on a bit longer, she was eventually offered a diploma place with DaDA mid July! It was nail biting but worth the wait. There wasn’t much movement in 2019 compared with previous years, not sure how 2020 compared.
