Hi everyone, we are looking for accommodation for Bird - if anyone knows of anything available we would be very grateful if you could let me know.

(Edited to say I’m sure someone posted about a room a few weeks ago but I can’t seem to find it. If that was you and it’s still available please get back to me)

We know others have been told their places on the Reserve List now so I would like to think that everyone knows one way or the other. Laine have been very slow with correspondence but no idea why. I think many will have given up and accepted elsewhere!
We still haven’t heard from Laines! Congrats to your DD 🎉

I think you should try and contact Laine (although that does appear difficult) as everyone we know who applied (and that's quite a lot) have all heard. Some got DADAs or scholarships, some on reserve for a DADA are waiting to see if they move up the list but they know their position. Those higher up got phone calls. Those lower down got emails. Some got straight no's for funding. DD's funding offer was from Miss Laine (not a DADA) so there must be other funding streams too. Sounds like your DD is still in the running for funding! Good luck!

We’ve still not heard from Laine despite chasing up with emails to Sarah Carrol.
I rang today and was advised by the admin staff member that she will contact Sarah.

Does anyone know if the £200 deposit for Wilkes is refundable? We have changed our minds about where to go but paid this earlier in the year. I since read somewhere that it wasn't a compulsory payment. I emailed them the other day about it but haven't heard so I'm guessing they may keep it. Is anyone else in same position? Would be great if I could get it back but I'm prepared to see it as a mistake on my part.

Today daughter has had an offer from Read college for their foundation course. Only 10 spaces on it. She's having a think about it because she does have a degree offer elsewhere and she'd rather not go through another year of self tape auditioning. I totally understand her viewpoint. Daughter got far further on when she auditioned on zoom. I think anyone with offers this year, even if it's foundation and you wanted degree/diploma or it's not your 'dream' school has done incredibly well as it's been such a tough year to audition in.

It’s definitely been a difficult year!
I understand why your daughter wouldn’t want to go through it again.

My daughter has a friend in the year below her at college. She kindly told my daughter that she was so lucky she didn’t have to do her ‘real A levels’ and that it was so much easier doing self tapes. She didn’t think it was fair that she might have to do ‘real auditions’ next year!

I told my daughter to bite her tongue and said she had obviously gone into self preservation mode already. I must admit thought it was difficult to hear knowing how stressful this year has been - juggling revision, exams, zoom auditions and self tapes.

Personally I think there are pros and cons to both. Maybe once life is back to normal the colleges will choose to do a combination of the two.

I think they have all done incredibly well in such uncertain times and having to adapt and film all of these different requirements with record numbers of applicants. I applaud them and yes maybe you can do re-takes etc but at least with a 'real' audition you know you have definitely been watched regardless of the outcome. Pros and cons and I do think some colleges will keep an element of self-taping as Urdang have said it is most likely. It is easier and cheaper for them, but I so think our DC deserve pats on the back and hope wherever they are heading off to they will dream big and embrace what their courses have to offer.

My dc did a combination of both last year .
The video auditions do not compare to the real thing . Such a shame that the kids this year didn’t get to experience it .

yes we paid this as at the time we thought it was to hold the place. I have since learned this isn't the case so wondered if it should be refundable too?

You get the advantage you can retake but the disadvantage that they can pick up on the smallest mistake and re-watch it. Plus mine was applying for straight acting courses and frequently they weren't watched to the end (for some daughter could find this out via an app) with a modern day monologue there can be a twist at the end where it changes the whole narrative and the way it's been told. Plus you only get the monologues with acting to audition with, so if you've not been watched/not been watched to the end your chances of acceptance have further diminished.

I think self tapes for first audition are going to become more the norm.

The worst part about self taping is that performing for camera is very different to performing to a live audience in a big theatre. It could change the type of candidates who are offered places? I’m sure the colleges are able to see past that but it’s all new to them too. It’s been great to read so many success stories on this board. Well done to you all!
