Sorry to post again about Wilkes £200 deposit. I thought I had read somewhere that is wasn’t compulsory? Has anyone had any experience of this? We paid, but now have decided to go elsewhere but Wilkes are saying it’s not refundable. Presumably they will charge the next person on the waiting list - so it seems unfair not to repay doesn’t it? Am I just being naive? What are your thoughts of this?

Unfortunately we were told that it was optional (for the degree course) but non refundable once paid.

Personally, I would just look at it as a cost of securing a back up place. £200 really isn’t much in the scheme of things. It’s a shame that you paid it if you didn’t need to to reserve the place and they need to make their position more clear. But it bought you peace of mind to secure the place but got an offer you prefer later on.

Thanks - yes think I should have not paid it in the first place.

Yes thanks - think I need to just put it down to experience and see it as a positive. Thanks for your perspective.

Has anyone heard off Bird yet? My DS has confirmed his place but not sure what the process is now? Do they contact you again or do we now just wait until results in august? He is planning on renting a student house but not sure if Bird do contact re halls or not?

How is everyone getting on since the ucas deadline?
My daughter has accepted bird with performers as 2nd choice.
She’s excited but nervous too.
She is thinking she’ll have to go in halls which isn’t what she wanted but at least it’s only for the first year.

I hope anyone waiting on reserve lists or funding doesn’t have too much longer to wait.
My DS has done Bird as first choice and performers as second. I want him to go to Halls but he's hell bent on student house...

You’ll get details of how to register your interest for Greenwich Uni halls in your info pack. You can’t apply for a room until August, but they’ll send all the relevant info when you’ve registered

I had this with another college a couple of years ago. Technically they’re not allowed to charge you to hold a place for the degree so many get round it by saying it’s for something else, in this case it was for uniform that had to be pre-ordered. My DD changed her mind after being offered Bird off the reserve list, the other college said the “uniform deposit” was non refundable so I reminded them it didn’t say that in the paperwork but if that was the case I’d come & collect my DD uniform bundle that I knew they’d not ordered yet … I got my deposit back

Yes we did the same but I viewed it as securing the place at the time.

Hi, does anyone know anything about advanced learner loans? I understand they can be used for a diploma course.
DD has heard from Laine (finally!) that she has been offered a place. We are looking at all possible funding options as it’s her dream place to train! She can’t get a Dada.

I think you can only get these for approved courses with approved course providers and you have to be 19. You can only get a certain amount which I don’t think would be anywhere near Laine course fees unfortunately.

Thanks for the info.
I’ve been looking into it more and think we need to just accept there’s no way she can go.
She’s still very pleased and excited to be going to Urdang.

My DD was offered a place there too but no funding, she was proud to have been offered but even more happy to be fully funded at Bird ☺️ Good luck to your DD
