This completely echoes how I feel. We really struggled to get it in over Christmas as had issues with the copyrighted music. Even so we got it in within the deadline and have heard nothing it’s still ‘pending’.

Congratulations to everyone with offers so far, and fingers crossed for those still waiting to hear. We will be embarking on the audition road next year so I’m reading every post with enthusiasm. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of straight acting so I was wondering if there’s anyone auditioning for straight acting courses at the moment. Dd is currently trying to decide which path to take. She’s doing an mt btec course at the moment and always thought she will be taking the mt career path, but she’s been more interested in straight acting recently. She will try for nyt this year, but I’d be interested to hear from anyone that might be going through the audition process now. Thanks
Hi, mine is auditioning for straight acting courses. She also did MT at sixth form (UAL qualification). She also got into NYT in 2020 (auditioned just before the first lockdown!)

This is my daughter's 2nd year of auditioning. She is almost 19 and currently at Rose Bruford on a foundation course. I would say that for straight acting courses there are nothing like the amount of spaces available that MT have. I read with a mixture of astonishment and envy when I see some places have 100+ MT students per year. There's a thread on this board that talks about how many places drama schools take, which might be worth you reading. In addition the straight acting courses are less likely to take from sixth form as they prefer their students to have had 'life experience' first. It's not impossible but it's also not common. We know of 2 who went straight into drama school from yr13. One was to GSA the year they started the actor/musician course and it went into clearing. The 2nd got into Mountview, which I believe says on their website that they don't discriminate on age.

Daughter was hit last year not just by the lockdowns affecting training but also a staff change and didn't get the support needed with applying. With the benefit of hindsight if I could go bck in time, I'd tell her to apply to the funded foundations rather than straight to the BA Acting. I naively thought that it wouldn't matter and if rejected, she'd still be able to apply for foundations anyway. That wasn't always the case and for some she found herself unable to apply because she'd already been rejected. There are 4 funded foundations for acting
Italia Conti
East 15
Fourth Monkey
Arts Ed.

I believe (but please check in case I'm wrong) the first 3 are fully funded, and the last, arts ed, partially funded. Each will use an entitlement to 1 year of degree funding up (you'd still get funding for a 3 year degree though)

My daughter's offers were as follows

Alra - rejected for BA then asked to audition for Foundation but rejected for that.
Central - rejected then asked to audition for and accepted on degree for performance art
Read college - offered foundation
PPA - Initially offered foundation, later changed to degree.
Rose Bruford - rejected for BA, then asked to auditon for foundation, went on reserve list.

Daughter was 5 weeks away from starting on her degree at PPA (having chosen that over her offers at Central and Read) when she was offered a last minute place at RB, as someone had got a 3 year offer elsewhere. We lost our £500 deposit to PPA, so that is something to be careful of. Are you aware of the funding too? Alra, Arts Ed and Mountview you can only borrow around £6k of tuition fees from student finance. PPA charges an additional £1250 per year you pay direct to college but you can borrow the full £9250 from student finance. If interested in diplomas then have you looked at the cost, understood how Dadas work if awarded one. We told our daughter paying for a foundation meant she couldn't then look at drama schools that needed top up fees, we'd got the money once for her. Dadas don't suit our family household. My husband has a company car plus benefits and they act as an 'extra' income in our household. This is the same for MT courses too

Hope that's of help. Shout up if you need more info.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to write all that, a lot to think about for sure! I wasn’t aware that the spaces on offer for straight acting were considerably lower than mt, but I do remember reading somewhere before (probably on this site) that they prefer them to be more mature. We haven’t looked into finances properly yet, but with a ds (hopefully) going off to uni this autumn, I know for a fact that’s going to be an issue. Good luck to your dd with this year’s auditions, I hope it goes well.

Was anyone at Urdang on Sunday? How was it? I’ve heard it was very busy, even more than normal, as a previous date was cancelled. Not hearing of many offers from Urdang being given either. Sounds like recalls are the same as the original auditions, they’re just not sure about you and want to see you again. Does that sound right?

I just hope next year they return to being in person.
My DD auditioned for a couple via self-tape and accepted a place at Wilkes without even going there, she doesn't regret it, she loves it there and the training is amazing.

She will be doing auditions again next year to move onto her degree.

My DD recall for Urdang was the same at the original audition in 2019, she didn't like the school though and turned the place down.

Hi. Yes. my DD was there. Friends who have auditioned earlier this year have had offers without recall. Usually about 4-5 days afterwards :)

Hi - first time posting here, but just wanted to update on GSA. My son sent his self-tapes in at the beginning of January, and hasn’t heard anything back yet. He emailed them a couple of days ago and they replied apologising for the delay - they said his tapes are still in the queue to be reviewed, but they’re just running behind because of the number of applicants. 🙂

I totally agree. I also don't think it's a level playing field with self tapes and won't be until they go back to real life auditions, though I wonder if they ever will. There's always chance you can turn an audition panel round if you slip up/ they don't seem keen, with a tape they can switch off. A lot of the time you don't know if tapes have been viewed/ when or how long for. If it's anything like last year there will be a huge increase in applicants too due to no travel/accommodation costs.

Though daughter has been very happy on her foundation course that she only self-taped/zoom called, she had a place on degree elsewhere that she accepted. It was only afterwards when she could attend the open day she realised she didn't get a 'vibe' for the place and so when a last minute foundation place elsewhere was offered, she took that instead and we lost £500 deposit. If it's been real life we'd have known in advance it wasn't for her.

DS already on train, money lost, too late to cancel hotel and this is the 3rd reschedule now - original audition booked for beginning of December! They have dropped right to the bottom of my list!
Was this for 1 March? We were due to audition then but cancelled due to illness and got a new date for April.Do you know if they make offers as they go along? Bit concerned about waiting almost another 7 weeks!

Trinity Laban recalls? We did first round a week ago. Anyone heard anything? Does anyone know what they do at recalls normally?

Do they definitely do recalls at Trinity Laban? My daughter went for the self tape option but I find it hard to believe she stands a chance against those that auditioned in person. They advised her in submission that she would hear by 12th March if that helps?
