Auditioning for 2022 entry

You prompted us to check and we have the same from GSA. A decline on UCAS and on Surrey self serve an invite to an applicant day in the 25th April. My gut feeling is an error as my daughter didn’t make it through to the interview stage at the recall.

Yep exactly same here though she felt audition had gone really well. So not surprised especially when so few places. We know 4 girls have already accepted GSA offers and were told they only want 8 in total! But just confusing with the SS applicant day message! Onwards and upwards though, good luck to your DD too

Could it be to do with the foundation course, just a thought?

Maybe? I’ve emailed admissions and gsa enquiries earlier so hopefully will get it cleared up tomorrow so we can move on! It’s just weird UCAS and Surrey don’t match, it even says application still being considered. Frustrating!

My DD is through to the interview stage for Arts Ed for the BA Hons. Does anyone know what to expect?
I'm wondering whether it's an informal get to know you or whether they will ask about any previous training and experience.

My DD hasn’t even done her first round Arts Ed yet She doesn’t think she’ll make the first cut, she’s heard it’s all about the legit song!!

My DS also waiting for first round at Arts Ed - originally booked an audition on 9 December and what with one thing and another we are now looking at a date on 22 March! Seems strange to have an offer, 2 recalls and a not even been seen yet. Such a fateful turn of events I will look back and see the reason why.

Don’t get hung up on what they are looking for - you will go round and round in circles and still have no idea. My favourite saying I heard years ago about auditions and applies to life in general ‘what’s for you, wont pass you by’. I remind myself of it frequently while we are on this merry go round.

I have always told my boys to do the best they can on the day in question and then there can be no regrets. They may not be the best in the room, or the best of the day but they can only be themselves and make sure they hold nothing back.

I hope your DD enjoys her audition when it arrives.

Not posted here for a while but love reading on everyone else’s success stories. Was a regular poster when my eldest dd was auditioning and she is now in 2nd year at Wilkes. My younger dd is now looking to audition to start in Sept ‘23 but whilst she is as good a dancer, dancing is her least favourite with singing being her passion and acting second. This opens a while new realm of places to audition which has thrown me slightly as she doesn’t want to go to somewhere like Wilkes, Bird, Performers etc that are heavily dance based. She is currently interested in Urdang and Italia Conti which are fine but is also interested in Arts Ed, Mountview etc which scare the heck out of me with their fees! Whilst we can add a little to it each year we have nowhere near the extra £9k or so required on top of the student loans. So my question is (as the only knowledge I have of these places is on here) do they offer any help towards the gap between what they can borrow and the fees? I don’t want her to audition somewhere we have no hope of paying for, we wouldn’t be eligible for a DADA as I think we earn too much, but not enough to have an extra £9k spare. Any advice appreciated.

Not sure of the answer. Hopefully someone with a child there can answer you. I've often asked myself the same thing though. We told DD that if she did a foundation course (she's been at Rose Bruford) we couldn't also afford a drama school with top up fees and the only reason we could afford the foundation was due to a couple of unexpected windfalls. The maximum income bank before becoming ineligible for support is £90K. That hasn't changed for years, think it's been the same all the time I've been on here. I've no idea how people make them work unless their child can either live at home and commute or has access to inexpensive lodgings. We've found a foundation course of fees, rent and money to live on tough at times and that's been for less than 1 year not a 3 year course.

Have you looked at other places that are fully funded such as Trinity Laban, RCS, Royal welsh?

Thanks, no not looked into many different places to be fair as yet, was hoping she’d go down the same road as her sister as I learnt everything there is to know about those colleges! Oldest dd did a pre-voc course so like you, totally understand how much it all costs and was only doable due to her inheritance from her grandad. Younger daughter would also have this to play with but it still comes nowhere near what she’d need over 3yrs. I think I need to start a bit more research, and hopefully get some help on here too x

Those people whose DCs attended recall at GSA, did they have people go through to an interview? DD says some were asked to sing again but no mention of an interview. Others (including DD) told not they could leave but not to read anything into it about their performance, so not sure if they were cut or not. My thought is that it was a cut but would be interested to hear others experience.

Ps. She said it was a great experience and everyone was so nice.
