Hi there. Haven't been on here much in recent years, but DS is joining the 2022 entrants and we would be very grateful for some help/advice! He is in the fortunate position of having offers from Bird, Laine and London Studio Centre. We have done some homework and know people at some of the schools (and there are definitely financial considerations!), but we are struggling to get a handle on the vibe of each school - and I know it is said that some schools suit a certain type (thinking of Laine in particular). Would anyone with a child currently at Laine be happy to DM with me so that I can ask some questions and get a parent's view?

Anyone have experience with this? DD is so keen to go there. They advised they will start to offer funding after the auditions are over mid April.

DD has been offered funding elsewhere and don't want to accept and take it away from someone else if she gets funding at performers.

🤷🏽‍♀️🥺🤞
DD is in the same boat , have you had emails yet from them as I chased it up and was told you have to accept to get the DADA forms, the paperwork talks about contract and DD can’t go without funding as she would have to live away , so been nervous about accepting anything !

Hi

We accepted, then got the DaDA income form to complete and return then DD was offered DaDA within about 3 days, DaDA offer came via email, not the portal.

I think if you're DC isn't offered funding you can withdraw from the contract after the 14day cooling off period.

Was this this year? As I thought the Dada’s were still being decided?

With no BA offers yet, considering quickly jumping onto foundation MT for a gap year and to support trying again next year. Any recommendations or ones to avoid? Also realise top ones may be filled already so considering places like Read College that specialise. Would love any insights, tia

For those DS & DD who have Laines places, has anyone been contacted about funding? Or anyone know when we are likely to hear? X

It’s a tricky one isn’t it. DD has one outstanding audition result, so thinking along the same lines. Not sure where you are based, but have you looked at SOTE in Birmingham?

Hi Lizzy, DD isn’t actually at Read so can’t comment first hand. However she’s attend their pre audition cause and open day, we’ve spoken to them a couple of times at move it and they seem fantastic. Spoken to many students there and they all love it. Strong in all departments, very friendly and caring. Great to have such small groups and their success rate speaks for itself.

Hi, my DD did a foundation year and it helped her immensely. She did her foundation at her top choice school, and is now there doing her degree. So while I can't tell you which ones to avoid I would say look at places she would like to do a degree at as it can be a good stepping stone to their degree courses. I know that foundation auditions are still open at my DD's school as they are still advertising, so hopefully there are other too. Does she have any preferences?

She’s going to arts Ed audition on Thurs which also for BA and foundation. She had recalls at Leeds (on reserve) gsa and royal Welsh and loved the last 2 places but didn’t get in this year, we feel she’s close so want to make the most of this ‘gap’ year. She wants to end up somewhere known for strong acting led MT as supposed to the more dance led.

Thank you, it does look impressive and has a friendly look to it. I think the experience of living away from home would be really useful too before embarking on BA degree especially after these last 2 years when things have been so difficult for teens

Thank you, just had a look, could be another option. I see they’ve got audition dates in may as well.

Yes. DD is auditioning on 11th. She’s a strong singer actor and a much improved dancer but think it is still a weak link. :)
