Auditioning for 2024 entry

Hopefully we all know where our children are going, or not going, but has anyone heard from unis re equipment list?

DD is off to GSA, but apart from hearing she has her preferred accommodation - not where - we have nothing else by way of what she might need in the way of dance stuff/books, no communication. She says she’s has nothing by way of emails etc.

Luckily we have most footwear in a mix of nude, black, pink but it all seems a bit laid back considering they’ve only got four weeks or so.

Maybe it’s just me!

I remember this being an issue when DS started. I emailed them for a kit list - they emailed me back to ask DS to email them due to GDPR. This is the email address Admissions@surrey.ac.uk

We are waiting to hear of a moving date, hopefully it won’t be much longer. We’ve no dates, just what’s in the website, 16th Sept, so I’m presuming we move on the Sat before. This is all new to me and as a planner, it just seems all a bit vague! . She’s not bothered at all!

I am curious to know if any dc’s have registered with a new gp practice when they moved out. I had a quick look and there’s a few that accept new patients, should we select one that’s within close proximity to the school? I was thinking there’s no point choosing one close to the halls address as she’ll only be there for one year. Does anyone in Sidcup have any experience/insight into which surgery to choose or not to choose? Thank you

When dd did a foundation course at Performers we enrolled her in a doctors as we thought that was the done thing. Then she moved to Wilkes to do the degree and this was Sept 2020 so during covid, we never bothered moving her doctors again (she’d gone back to her doctors at home after foundation finished) as appointments can be online so not really needed. The one time she needed more urgent care she called 111 and they told her to go to the urgent care at the hospital. My niece is currently at Bath Uni and none of them have moved doctors, if they have tonsilitis etc they ring 111 and get help. I don’t think moving doctors is needed as much now, it all seems a faff, but others could differ x

Thanks K8t, I asked dd if there was any mention of a college gp in their correspondence but she said she didn’t see any. It’s all sorted now, we’ve decided to register her with new gp in Sidcup for peace of mind, which we’ve done this morning and was very straight forward. She’s moving out next Saturday, so hard to believe! This time last year it was all just a dream and now it’s become reality! Good luck to your dd, I hope she enjoys the course and all the best with this year’s auditions. X

Possibly because GSA is part of a University and that's common with Unis with loads of students to have connections to local GPs to register with and suggest to students.

DS has used the Surrrey Uni medical centre (he's doing Acting degree at GSA) and they've been good.

Just thought I’d post to see how everyone is getting on. Dd had settled in very well since we dropped her off 4 weeks ago. She just completed her first 2 weeks of training and couldn’t be happier! Some days are long and tiring but the course is everything she was hoping for and more! She had this feeling all along, but now knows for sure that this is definitely the right school for her

That’s great to hear. Very similar story here, my DD is at guildhall doing the acting ba. It’s very slow (purposefully) and intense in the first term but they are literally building incredible foundations and stamina. The teachers are amazing as are the facilities. The school offers everyone free therapy, free physio even free sessions with therapy dogs if they want it. Fantastic commitment to student wellbeing. She’s so so happy there (and knackered ha ha).
