it is a difficult decision, and all been there one way or another over choosing schools - but I have always wanted my dcs to have local friends, and be able to go to after-school clubs etc and still be able to get home in time to have a home life and time for homework - As vocational schools are often a logistical nightmare it makes decisions that bit harder.

I agree and I have also thought it is good to have friends who have other interests as well.

I wrote a reply to Riverdance yesterday and lost it.
We don;t have to really decide just yet. She is going to the taster day on monday and really looking forward to it. She will get an offer (or not) at the senior school attached to her junior school in October but as they are going on the results of the last 2 years tests it is pretty definate she will get a place there.
It is the case that the travelling will prevent us organising dance classes out of school.
She has a very small group of friends at her current school and one of them is leaving before senior school. She isn;t particularly popular and does get a bit of stick.
With regards to friends close to home, school is 7 miles away at the moment and draws children from about a 10-12 mile radius so its something we have always had to a certain extent.
She might not even get a place, she is having some issues with her teeth at the moment which is causing a slight lisp, dh is giving her some excercises (and oddly enough was on a course with quite a few speech therapists today) but this may preclude her.
I'm sure Riverdance that you are doing the best for your ds, would the journey have been 2 hours each way or 1 hour each way. It is a lot.
Meanwhile dd is preparing to run for house captain!! She knows she won't win becasue it is a popularity contest and she isn't popular but she'll have a go anyway!

One thing worth bearing in mind though (in terms of when you make your decision), the senior school ask for a deposit on acceptance of the place - most of which is non-refundable if you don't take up the place, so if you keep it as a "fall back" it's an expensive business (I think, but don't quote me on it £500)
So if you can, decide before you have to commit - get your offer in place from the other school and save yourself the cash!!! And good luck to her with the house captain voting - you never know!!!
And if I can help with any queries you have about the senior school, you know where I am!! It's such a HUGE decision, and one that you want to be happy with.
By the way, if you're going to see Toad of Toad Hall, K's playing Ratty!

I think that's going to be difficult anyway as the senior school offers will go out in October but audition results from this school won't be until around Easter time. State schools give out offers on 1st march.
Don't think we will get to play as we have a very busy 3 weeks with stagecoach summer demo. Piano, lamda tap and modern dance exams plus drama club play sports day swimming gala and her benny rehearsals
Thats not including ds s activities!
