Applying to Musical Theatre Courses?!

Post by LiveTheDream..x »

I'm currently a 17 year old student in year 12, first year of sixthform.
I hope to able to study Musical Theatre in further education in places such as Mountview or GSA.
Would anybody be able to give me some advice on this please?!
When should I start applying? When should I start preparing my song/monologue peices?
I'm more of a singer/actress rather than a dancer, (ive never had any formal dance training) would this be a disadvantage?!
Anyyy avice would be much appreciated!
Thank You :)

You will need to apply from this September onwards for the following September intake so wise to start preparing your songs and monologues as soon as possible as auditions can come through very quickly after you have applied.

It will take some time but a read through the drama school auditions thread may prove useful. I would also recommend a book called So You Want To Tread The Boards by Jennifer Reischel - my DD found it very useful. If you are not a confident dancer I would recommend doing some dance lessons, as all the MT courses have some element of dance in the auditions, even if it is a course less well known for dancers - lessons will help you appear more confident.

As Shortguy says, prepare well in advance - don't apply till you have your songs and monologues sorted out. Also start saving as it can get expensive

Good luck!!
