ADVICE ON SPOTLIGHT!

Post by lorraine cook »

Can anyone tell me how Spotlight works?? Do you have to have an agent to join, or would being a member of a casting agency be enough? Do you have to pay to join? I am baffled by their website!! #-o

It depends whether you are a child/minor or an adult.

As an adult you need to have trained on an accredited course or to have had 4 paid professional engagements.

As a child you need to be represented by an agent or attend a stage school ( Ithink this is correct).

What is the distinction you are making between an agent and a casting agency?

You do have to pay to have an entry in Spotlight. It is very widely used by Casting Directors (indeed, for most CDs, it is the only directory they use). The "book" is still published, but it's the on-line version that's important. Many jobs go through the Spotlight link.

I think of it as being like the Yellow Pages for plumbers or skip hire - it's where someone will expect to find your details. If you are not already known in the industry then without a Spotlight entry you are almost invisible.
