Guitar Exams?

Post by DanceDanceDance »

Hi - Just wondered if anyone has experience of the 'Rock School', 'RGT' and Trinity 'Pick' exams. The Rock school ones seem fairly easy . . . (looking on utube). Someone said something to me about RGT needing more rounded musicians and have more improv. Don't know anything about the Trinity Pick.

My son has been playing for several years and has now decided he might try some guitar exams (he's done exams in piano & jazz piano , studying Grade 5 - but guitar has always been 'just for fun'). His teacher doesn't do exams, but has him playing gigs . . . great experience, but if DS has finally decided to 'do' music (just picked it for GCSE) then probably a good idea to go this route.

So hard to know which system to go for - please let me know if you have any experience of them. Thanks

Rock School and Trinity at the higher grades are pretty tough. Rockschool originally was thought of as 'easier' - but this certainly isn't the case now. Don't know about RGT, sorry.
